I have been reading a lot about how people treat a mild to moderate wedge compression fracture of t12, how do you know if you need osteoporosis drugs, some people with fractures don't take drugs, I am due my second reclast infusion this Thursday not looking forward to it. any tips anyone.

Once a spinal compression fracture has healed there is no treatment as far as I’m aware, unless surgery is recommended.

The infusion isn’t to treat fractures, it’s to strengthen bones.

I assume you were offered treatment because your Dexa scan showed you had osteoporosis. Some people choose this route, others don’t.

There is a pinned post to a ROS article on Osteoporosis Drug Treatment that you may find helpful.

thanks, but with my diagnosis would it be better to carry on with zoledronic acid infusions. plus after my first infusion 4am in the morning was peeing blood went to a/e was put on a drip and then sent home later in the day with antibiotics which cleared up.

I know it’s a difficult decision to make but I’m not qualified to advise.

Speak to the medical professionals if you haven’t already done so, but it’s your body and your choice no matter what anyone else says.

When I opted for the dugs, I did as much research beforehand as I could and once I made the decision just got on with it really,

After the infusion I imagined the drugs getting to work, strengthening my bones and didn’t dwell on the rare possible side effects.

I’m sorry you had problems after the first infusion., were you told the infusion was the cause?

You say you were given antibiotics so it sounds like you had an infection that coincided with the infusion so that seems unlikely to happen again.

thanks, never had a uti infection in my life, straight after the infusion got one,I do have locally advanced prostate cancer which is under control, since I finished treatment in 2016 I get up to pee 4 times a night wether that has something to do with it I don't know.

I knew by how fast my bones were going. The Consultant just gave me them. No yes or no.

I was in hospital unable to walk because my T 12 had gone.I knew nothing about Osteoporosis at the time. I was just told I would be on medication. I wasn’t asked they just said it. I’m glad I was given it because I’ve had no more fractures since 2020. I’d had seven fractures by then.

which medication are you on now then, because I have mild to moderate wedge compression fracture of t12, my second infusion is on Thursday, I have been in 2 minds wether to go ahead with it.

I had on Alendronic Acid but couldn’t get on with that. I was then on Terraparatide for two years and now I’m on Denosumab.

My first bone went in 2013, my second and third in 2018 and the last four was in 2020. I know people are against these bone meds but they work for me. Had I read all the controversy I’m not sure what I would do. I think you can only trust your Consultant. They know a lot more than we do.

It’s everybody’s own choice what they do though.

thankyou I will be going ahead with it on Thursday, just hope I don't end up peeing blood again like I did after my first infusion.

You need to talk to your Dr or Consultant. Just to make sure whether it is the drug and not something else. I passed blood twice and it was quite a bit. I’ve had it investigated and they think it was probably a small blood vessel had broken. It wouldn’t surprise me because I bruise so much. I would never connect it with my medication. You need to talk to someone to get confirmation either way.

thanks, if you Google it uti infection is a side effect of zoledronic acid infusion prior to my first infusion i have never peed blood in my life.

Nor me. Has the Dr suggested you go for tests?

I've read of people hydrating before infusion, and also requesting the infusion be done slowly, that is taking twice the time it usually takes, sorry I've never had infusion myself, just read that instead of an infusion taking an hour, for example, ask if the drop can be run to take 2 hours.

only if you think that suits you ...

best wishes..!
