Heliobacter Pylori and infusion due

Has anyone on here had H Pylori. I became unwell at the end of November and was tested for HP in early December but it came back negative. At the end of January I finally had an endoscopy which confirmed that indeed I did have HP. I completed a course of Amoxycillen and Metronidazole and Nexium and finished last Friday. It appears that these have not worked - as can be the case in about 10% of people. I am due my 2nd Zolendronic infusion in a couple of weeks and I don't know whether it is sensible to have it... any thoughts anyone? I would love feedback on peoples' journeys with HP...

Sorry not to be able to offer any insight but you might get more help if you post in a gastro-related community? Acid reflux support maybe?

I had HP years ago but no treatment worked. I still have terrible acid reflux if I don’t take my omeprazole tablets daily. At the moment for the osteoporosis I’m taking Risedronate but due to feeling sick I’m changing very soon to injections of romosomobab( not sure of spelling ) . I would think having an infusion or injection would not effect the reflux because it bypasses the stomach. If you are unsure speak to your doctor. Good luck

Hi Superbones. I was diagnosed with HP about 5 years ago. I had an endoscopy followed by two courses of antibiotics (the acid reflux didn’t abate after the 1st) followed by another endoscopy. The inflammation in the stomach had reduced, but hadn’t been eliminated. At this point my GP just shrugged his shoulders! I have got osteoporosis, but fortunately only just. I then saw a nutritional therapist who started to give me some ideas and I started researching. What has worked for me is an anti inflammatory diet. The only time I get reflux now is if I am out and unwittingly eat something I shouldn’t, which could even be something silly like being cooked in the wrong (for me) oil. It was a long journey, with a lot of trial and error, but I am in a better place now. As far as Osteoporosis is concerned, I was given AA by my GP with the full knowledge of my acid reflux problems, which obviously became much worse. I also felt very run down and everything was becoming too much trouble. This wasn’t me, I’m alway’s active and if a job’s there to be done I just get on with it. So, after 2-3 months I stopped the AA and was referred to a Rheumatologist who wanted me to have a Zolendronic acid infusion. As a result of how I felt after taking AA I declined the infusion. Diet, supplements, exercise and REM’s scans every couple of years or so, to track the progress of the condition. I hope this helps. Everyone is different, we all need to find our own path.

I found your article very useful but alarming. I suspect the first lot of anitb's have not worked but of course I can't be retested until another 5 weeks have passed for a sednond endoscopy. What antib's were you given first and second time? I have been trying to stay on an Alkaline diet which I guess is the same as the antiinflammatory one. I just want my life back!!!

Hello Superbones,Yes I had h pylori about 5 years ago after a heavy course of prednisone which played a large role in my osteoporosis. The first course of antibiotics did not work for me either which was discovered with my endoscopy. The second course of antibiotics if I recall correctly, involved 3 antibiotics plus Pepto-Bismol and a proton pump inhibitor. The antibiotics were not the same the second time either but I can't recall the names. It's seems the second course was called quadruple treatment. Anyway it was successful in eradicating the h pylori, but I am left with a small hiatal hernia now I think due to the weight gain during prednisone which I have since lost. I managed my acid reflux now with diet, small meals, and h2 histamine ranitidine. I am so far avoiding osteoporosis medications despite my severe osteoporosis. However the REMS shows my bone quality still quite good. I hope you can successfully eradicate the h pylori. The supplement berberine is also good for this.

PS Sorry, I can’t remember the names of the antibiotics, but I do know they were different.

heliobacter pylori absorption of nutrients

Sorry ignore above!

I thought I'd replied here but maybe didn't press reply. HP in itself may contribute to OPorosis because it reduces the absorption of nutrients inc Vit C and iron and other minerals. The studies on it haven't come to a firm conclusion - maybe a slight effect, but worth taking seriously.

Search Tan Cheung Relationship between H Pylori infection, Osteoporosis and Fractures for a very detailed consideration if you like that kind of thing.

It's not just about the reflux. It may be a contributory cause.
