Zoledronic acid infusion.

I had a zoledronic acid infusion 5 weeks ago I am now experiencing a lot of upper abdominal pain. I thought this was only the case with the oral medication. I am prone to this anyway but it seems worse now. Has anyone experienced this and if so how long does it go on for.

I've had 2 of these infusions and only felt a little out of sorts for a couple of days each time.

Are you planning on have a third zoledronic acid infusion or did your dr. say you had to stop after two? Also did you see an improvement in your bone density after the 1st infusion?

The first Dr I spoke to said one a year for 5 years, but before having my second one I spoke to a different Dr who said 3 years. I will have to wait and see what I'm told when the third one comes around. Unfortunately a few weeks ago I suffered another spinal fracture. This was my own fault for over doing things in the garden, moving slabs.

I was told 3 years as well. I have had 9 Denosumab previously. I wish I didn't have to have any of these drugs. They are horrible.

Hope you heal quickly from the spinal fracture—you may want to look into red light therapy.

I took alendronate for 1.5 years, quite because caused digestive tract issues, & had my 1st zoledronic acid infusion last November. My endocrinologist expected me to have another infusion this November but I told him I wouldn’t make a decision until after getting another DEXA to see what’s going on with my bones.

I recently learned about bone turnover marker tests, not from my endocrinologist, and have realized that he failed to do these tests before (for a baseline) I started bisphosphonates and 3 months after taking (to see if the bisphosphonates were actually having the desired effect) the osteo-meds. I’m not very happy with him.

I’m leaning towards not having another infusion. I would rather work on improving my bone health w/o meds to see if it’s possible. My next DEXA is on 12/5/22 and I found an imaging center (4 hours away) that can do a DEXA w/ TBS. Hopefully this will give me a helpful information.

What is red light therapy?

I have not used red light therapy, but there is research showing red light therapy helps speed the healing of bone and fights inflammation. It can be used to reduce/stop back pain.

I wonder if this is the same as intravenous laser therapy, they have different color settings, defnitly red is one of em and they say it is uv(as far as i know, or maybe the other color is the uv one)

Had 1 zoledronic acid infusion in November 2021, and I did not experience abdominal pain. You should definitely reach out to your dr.

I have never had abdominal pain following my infusions. I would check with your Dr, as FearFracture has suggested.

Well my father is having mild abdominal pain that extends to his back according to him, couldnt figure when he first had it, had six zoledronic acid infusions since june but it wasnt the zometa brand, he just had the zometa brand this november and it seems hes had more pain with it so we opted to go back to the cheaper brand, as of now we have no clue if his mild ab pain is a side effect or the cancer getting worse or some intestinal issue
