Has anyone had Zoledronic acid infusions & tolerated well with no / minimal side effects ?

OR if there were side effects how long did they last ?

All comments would be greatly appreciated !

Hello, just had a ZA infusion on April 5. First 3 days I was in a darkened bedroom with lots of aches. Took Tylenol every 6 hours, wash cloth on my face and nausea medication. Third day sat on couch. Felt weak. Left knee didn't want to function as a knee. Two weeks have gone by now. Almost all symptoms have left. Left knee is finally letting me walk two miles and is getting somewhat stronger. We shall see if I can return to gym for my weight bearing exercises on Tuesday.

I was very skeptical and didn't want to do it. However I didn't like prolia side effects and had to relay to something else or risk the rebound fractures by not doing anything.

Let me know how you do. Good luck. Ask about restrictions. No one told me not to go in a hot tub until 4 days later when I called endo. She said they recommend no hot tub, but infusion person never said anything. Apparently infusions don't agree with hot tub. I wanted it for the bone aches.

I want to ask all you people who have replied to 88km: please can you give your age? I am 74, and need to consider which injections/infusion to go for next. I had to give up Teriparatide because of the side effects. I took Pregabalin (was on gabapentin before) for the pain. Maybe the dizziness and balance problems caused by the Pregabalin joined with the dizziness that is suggested with Teriparatide. But the result was a disaster. I was dangerously dizzy. And now 10 days after stopping the Teriparatide I am still experiencing dizziness. The bone pain has stopped finally.. So, was considering zoledronic acid. I have severe osteoarthritis in both ankles, and I’m wondering if all these injections will make this worse, because they may cause inflammation on top of the OA inflammation already there. Any experiences on this? And please please do put your age in the post…..

I've had two infusions. I feel tired after them but that is all. I take the day after off work and then go right back and I have a very physical job.

I was fine after the infusion, little bit shivery for a hour it two, but nothing to be concerned about.

I drank lots of water before, during and for 3/4 days after the infusion (5 pints daily was recommended after infusion)

I had the infusion in March and felt fine afterwards. However 5 days later I went down with a lurgy caught from my granddaughter and wondered if it had lowered my immune system. 6 weeks later I still seem tired but who knows. Will I have the 2nd one... yes probably.

Yes, in October and no side effects so far. I had great anxiety over it, for no reason. All the best.

Hi 88km. I wonder did you go ahead with this infusion. I was offered it yesterday as the only possible thing (6y on alendronoc acid) - consultant listed available treatments and said why I couldn’t have them so only this one left. Wondered how you managed with it. Thanks 🙏

Hi there - I haven’t started taking anything yet as I’m still undecided .

Even although you have taken AA for 6 years do you still need to continue with an alternative ? Please let me know if you do decide to go ahead with the infusion ? 😌

Hi. I met with the consultant for the first time last week and got the appointment for the infusion for early September. If you are in the uk you’ll know you have to keep on the system or they put you to the back of the queue again, so I went along with her and agreed to have it but I’m still not sure…I’m closer to saying now than yes, and am doing lots of research into non-medical ways to increase bone density - diet and exercise. Seems like everything is a gamble and there is no guarantee of improvement from any intervention, so you have to do your research and make a decision that’s right at the time. I will keep you posted!
