Alendronic Acid side effects

Took Evenity for 11 months, then Actonel low does caused bad migraine, then Raloxifine caused 5 day migraine now Alendronic Acid at only 20mg and non stop migraine for nearly a week, plus swollen feet, sleeping heavy and low mood.

Has anyone come off Alendronic Acid after bad migraine, how long for the migraine to go?

Has anyone else experienced these side effects? Where did you go from that? Is the Reclast (Zolendranate) yearly injection better on migraine? I have just been told the Strontium Ranelate (UK) will not be available until 2025. I am running out of options, meanwhile losing all the bone made on Evenity. I rang the ROS nurse (very kind but couldnt really help) My consultant just says take nothing! and I cant get to the neurologist for months. Neurology cancelled my appointments 5 x times over the last year and half (NHS) they say due to doctors strikes. Any help appreciated.

Hi! Just to say I used to get migraine very badly. Since I’ve got older the migraines have gone. I do get the odd occasional headaches when I wake up if I’ve not had a good night but I find getting up, having my breakfast then a coffee and it’s gone. I’m on Denosumab and that hasn’t caused my migraines to return. I’m not saying it would work for anyone else. If they had come back I would have had to find something else. I couldn’t stand the bad heads I used to get. I hope you find something.

Thankyou. I am very worried about Denosumab because if I had to come off it I couldnt take A. Acid or Actonel and not sure of the others and I know you have to be on something straight away, on the other hand, I managed Evenity without more migraine, and that was in the same class, I believe, as Denosumab. At the moment, my GP has agreed I can try HRT, its such a relief. I may see my consultant about tiny infusions of the yearly one (if its available, which I am not sure I would get). So I feel better that I have a plan.

Talk to your GP about your options and also ring the Osteoporosis Society to ask their opinion. The more information you’ve got the better.

hi, so sorry to hear your stress I was on alderonic acid weekly for six months then I felt really sick so I was put on a higher dose monthly but after six months felt sick again.

I have now been put on infusions yearly. Felt a bit rough for 4 days but after that felt great.

Just a thought to ask your specialist about infusions, saves constantly taking tablets. All I take tablet wise now is a daily calcium D tablet and a statin.

Good luck,

Love Ursula… I am 75

Hi Ursula, did you get migraines on the alendronic acid? I had the liquid and the additives were citric acid and ethanol both know triggers for migraine in themselves let alone the a. acid. But the Actonel gave me them too so that wouldnt have had those two ingredients in there as it was a tablet.
