That is a very difficult question to answer radars and I completely understand why you are asking it. Unfortunately I’m not sure there is any sort of answer, ultimately I think you have to do what feels right for you.
In my experience the people I know who take drugs for osteoporosis (infusions like you have had and tablets like I had) all swear by them and look at me as if I’m completely deranged for not taking them - I stopped my weekly alendronic acid tablet after four months because I felt so bad, so I just don’t talk about it.
It seems to me that some people take osteoporosis drugs and seem well while others like me don’t and although I was offered an infusion. I felt so ill on the tablets that I couldn’t face taking the risk that I might feel just as awful with a year’s worth of bisphosphonate in my system. I also know there are people who take the drugs and continue to fracture and people who don’t take the drugs and who seem to be ok.
I feel for you because it’s a very, very difficult decision to make and the medical profession will always push you to take them.
Like Fruitandnutcase I do not have a “this is what you should do” answer. That said when I read your post here is what I thought.
When I had my initial baseline Dexa scan it showed the being of osteoporosis. So my family doctor told me to do three things - lose weight, begin a regular exercise program of resistance and aerobics (walking) and change my diet. The combination of all three has helped me improve my bone health.
It is not a miracle or easy fix but it may help based on your response to drugs. It is better than nothing. I now do weights for 20 - 30 minutes each day and walk 6.5 miles each day Rain or shine. I bought an Apple Watch to check my daily step progress versus my daily/weekly goals.
On a more personal note my grandkids think it is cool that I have an Apple Watch.
did you get through it? I’m scheduled for my first reclast IV in April. I’m trying to stop Prolia due to side effects.
