reclast and back pain

I had my first infusion in February and had headache and threw up then no problems. Fast forward a few months and started having severe back pain. Best way to explain is right below shoulder blade. Doctor says it’s nothing to do with reclast but wondering if anyone else has had anything similar. I’m contemplating skipping 2nd infusion to see if pain goes away.

They did X-rays to make sure no fractures and did not see any.

I had my first infusion of zoledronic acid in March. I had some flu like systems for a day or two but just rested a lot. It was manageable. After that all was good. NO side effects at all. I was also apprehensive before the infusion. Very normal to feel that way but in my case, all the worries were for naught.

I’ve heard the key is to drink lots of water before and after and also take Tylenol. Also my doctor said the way you feel after is kinda like the Covid shot, each time it’s less and less. Keep your mind positive and I’m sending you lots of luck and hugs

I sailed through the first infusion and had a 11% increase in my spine and 2% increase elsewhere. I received a second infusion in September of 2023 and by December, I also had lots of aches and pains, mostly in the lower back. I had X-rays which showed nothing wrong and recently had an MRI which showed some disc degeneration in my lower back (L4 and L5). I haven’t met with my doctor yet, but I assume this is more age related 66) than Reclast. I was also surprised to see my vitamin D was very low (21) and that can also contribute to aches. I started taking 2000 per day to raise it up. We will see if it helps. I meet with my Endocrinologist in September, it will be interesting to see if I had more gains.

That’s fantastic news of your gains in your spine. I’m 65 and my spine is -3.5 and I get my dexa scan in December to see if I have any gains. I’m sorry to hear of your lower back pain. Do they think the pain could be a symptom of your low D levels? Sports research has a vitamin D and K pill I used for a few years to boast my D levels up. I took it once a week. It’s 5000 of D and 100 of K. I was extremely deficient and so far fingers crossed I’m in the range.

Good luck to you and thank you so much for the info!

I had my third infusion a couple of months ago. With my first I had no side-effects, with my second I was very tired the next day and had some pain in my wrists where I have arthritis, but it was gone in a day or so. The last time, I had a little discomfort in my wrists, but nothing else. I agree with the drinking of at least 16 ounces of water beforehand and Tylenol before and after.

I experienced some improvement in my numbers, but 11 % change is amazing. Wow!

That’s interesting because my X-ray did show some arthritis wonder if there’s a correlation with the infusion and arthritis??

I was surprised at the side-effect, but it had to be the infusion because the discomfort happened the next day and was gone soon after. So, maybe!!

this is just my opinion, but I am convinced these doctors will not talk negative about these types of medications .. either they really don’t know or feel the risks outway the issues and downplay all the side effects…I was on Prolia for a long time.. start having severe side effects after about 8 yrs☹️ did not realize I could not just stop bc of the rebound effect… after much research several trips to different doctors. I realize I had to do a reclast infusion to offset the rebound effect…. I did so in march… And it will be my only one

I will be doing my best to do this naturally with vitamins, supplements, and exercise and a healthy diet

I wish you all the best and hopefully everything works out
