Are there less side effects using Tymlos? What is the difference?

Thank you in advance.

I sincerely hope your doctor explained the risks with Denosumab "Multiple Vertebral Fractures (MVF) Following Discontinuation of Prolia® Treatment: Following discontinuation of Prolia® treatment, fracture risk increases, including the risk of multiple vertebral fractures. New vertebral fractures occurred as early as 7 months (on average 19 months) after the last dose of Prolia®"

Why would I want to stop taking it? They’ve told me I will have it for life.

That's good and glad you can tolerate it.

I did have a break for a few weeks of Denosumab when my vitamin D dropped and I had four more spinal fractures becau se I had to wait till it picked up. My consultant has now said I must not have breaks like that again.

It’s a bit worrying but I can’t do much about it. I dont want to change and have more pain than I’ve already got.I’ve been on Denosumab now for three or four years.

I am so very sorry, that is absolutely disgraceful as the fda had warned of this in January 2017. As usual, the UK trailed behind and the govt didnt give out a warning until May 2020. I was very fortunate in that the rheumatologist I saw in Jan 2017 said no to Prolia after a so called London expert on osteoporosis suggested I went on it the previous September. I didnt like the sound of the side effects anyway, and he said oh it just might cause a rash. On the FB osteoporisis I moderate, one poor lady had 9 fractures simultaneously when she left off Prolia. An American guy whose wife went through hell on it has started a group about 5 years ago specifically for the victims of it facebook.com/groups/9885410...

Take care x

I can only speak as I find. I’ve had no problems apart from when my vitamin D dropped. I make sure I get no gaps in my treatment any more.

Forteo is a synthetic form of the parathryoid hormone whereas Tymlos is the non synthetic form. Both have to be followed by a bisphosphonate so I don't know about side effects as taking the bisphosphonates would put me off. Worse some ignorant doctors are still prescribing Prolia which has to be a lifetime commitment as leaving it off causes multiple fractures. The FDA gave out a warning about this in January 2017 and the UK trailed behind with a govt warning in May 2020, typical!!
