it shouldn't cause tooth problems, as far as i can tell, but - i'm wondering.

on another topic, isn't it the state of things when we ask each other specialist questions due to being unable to get the info from doctors. barely able to ask, as i don't know the questions at the time.

there's professional comment about people getting info from the internet - i get it, there's a ton of mis-info - but i feel so underinformed when i see my Mother's docs.

another thing i noticed, as i am new to the whole o.p medical system,

the specialist writes the script, in a tower, then it's the g.p's literally on the ground having to deal with patients and pain, questions, referrals, everything. they don't get paid by the drug manufacturers.

i also wanted to stay away from the boards as it can be difficult to read, but that's because our situations are difficult, nearly unbearable.

i appreciate people chatting and sharing,

pity we are brought together by a [bad] condition and more-so [bad] drug treatments,

but thank you everyone

I had terrible toothache and several massive bouts of sinusitis when I was taking alendronic acid. That and many other side effects was the reason I gave up after taking it for four miserable months. All that stopped when I stopped the alendronic, could have been a coincidence but ……

I thought it was a very odd side effect. My dental health is very good, I’ve got a lovely dentist and I see the hygienist every three months - I want to hang on to my teeth, they may not be beautiful but they’re mine so I know my teeth were not the problem. Things went back to normal when I stopped the alendronic. Not a fun experience at all, MayGodBlessYou.

you are so right. I’ve actually got a lot of help from the Osteoporosis society. I’ve rang them a few times now. There should be some kind of place we can ring. Even the Drs aren’t that up with what we go through. It’s like nobody can help us anywhere. That’s why this group is so good. I phoned and got a practice nurse one day and I said I was advised something or other. She said who is this person and where is the paperwork for her. Well! What can you say about that. I did say after last time I had this they gave me that. She looked at my notes and said oh yes I can see and she prescribed it. Now how would anyone take that. I was furious. .

I have been on teriparatide since July. I just recently had some minor localized bleeding from my gums (which has healed) and now I have some toothache/sensitivity with cool beverages. I take extraordinary care of my teeth, but with age we get recessed gums. I also grind. So I suspect these factors brought about my symptoms and that the timing with teriparatide for me is coincidence (but will keep an eye on it).

With respect to counsel on osteoporosis, my general practitioner is excellent but simply has limited exposure to clients with and info about the disease. My endocrinologist does her best but I do feel limited in terms of the time I have available to ask questions. I don’t think she makes any money from Lilly or Alvogen as a conflict of interest.

I make up for the missing information/dialog gap by consulting with online endocrinologists. I pay a fee of course for their time, but it is well worth it when I find an articulate, patient individual that resonates with me. I have learned so much from them. It has protected me I think from doing things that might seem intuitive but would not actually be wise or healthy.
