In Australia Forte has Black Box because during trials on rats it caused bone cancer. It should only used in extreme cases Also in Australia it can only be used for 18 months in your whole lifetime due to the risks (2 years in Europe ) Also due to lack of studies no one can tell you authoritively what to do afterwards. You have to go on something else or you lose the benefit. There is emerging evidence that if you have been on bisphosphanates prior to Forteo that not only does it have a higher failure rate but in fact the spine deteriorates in the first 6 months.! We need long term solutions and looking for a quick fix which may not work and may cause bone cancer should be considered very carefully. Do not believe the statistics from the drug companies.

Thanks for the warning!
I was never offered it, and I'm glad I wasn't thanks to your warning. If I'm ever offered it in the fure I'll definitely say NO! So thank you so much for the information. XXX
I’ve heard this before on the NOF forum, but thanks for the reminder. I’m still in a quandary over what to take next.
What is Forteo pls? X
Forteo is teriparatide. Unlike the bisphosphonates, like alendronic acid, or like denosumab (Prolia), it doesn't inhibit the osteoclasts. Those are the cells that break down old bone. Instead it stimulates the osteoblasts, which grow new bone. Because of the findings with the cancer in rats humans are limited to two years maximum treatment with this medication.
Thank you. How terrifying xxx

However, this study indicates there was no evidence that teriparatide increased incidence of osteosarcoma in humans.

But, as you know, I wouldn't touch any of the osteoporosis drugs.
