I am wandering if it will be better for me to take a low dose calcium supplement, I take 20mg of pantoprazole a day and that might stop me for absorbing calcium, I am getting aches in my back goes off with rest, I also have locally advanced prostate cancer but that's under control at the moment but P/c don't like calcium.

calcium supplement
I’m not sure if you mean you aren’t allowed to eat calcium rich foods/ supplements with pantoprazole but you are allowed to eat calcium containing foods then why don’t you look at this link and try to top up your calcium throughout the day with some of the foods on there

The other thing you could do is ask your local pharmacist for advice as to the best form of calcium to take to suit your circumstances.
thanks yeah I don't eat dairy with p/c I can't stop in all day counting this and that every time I ask the pharmacist anything it's always see your gp what I am saying with pantoprazole and other ppis they stop you absorbing nutrients ie calcium, blood tests don't tell you if you are absorbing calcium.
Sorry I forgot you’ve said before that because of your p/c you don’t take dairy at all. What about this link - there are some non dairy sources of calcium but a lot depends on what you like
healthline.com/nutrition/15.... Have you asked the ROS how you know if you are absorbing calcium and how much?
maybe have a bone scan to get a baseline picture of the state of your bones. and then follow up in another year or two with another scan (you won't pick up any changes in less than a year). If you do use a calcium supplement check the form of the calcium, some are really useless and not absorbed by anyone. Vitamin D supplement is a good idea (with or without the calcium).
Hello, I take omeprozole which is similar to pantoprozle. I was advised not to take it at the same time as the supplement, so take the vitamin D and calcium with my meal in the evening. I don't eat diary as I am lactose intolerant. Recently had my calcium levels checked and they were fine.
Aches in the back can be from a variety of causes. If it is disabling or causing a lot of pain I'd speak to a doctor. I have squashed disc in lumbar region causing lower back pain and pain down my leg, plus oesteophytes (bony growths) in cervical spine. Both were diagnosed by MRI. The general aches I get which improve with exercise are caused by osteoarthritis.
Good that the p/c is under control. You could speak to your oncologist if you are worried, or maybe one of the Cancer Support Organisations? It can be difficult managing different conditions.
