Covid and back pain

Both me and my husband currently have covid - been over a week now. Not been great, very tired and incredibly snotty! My question is whether others have had more back pain during covid? I’ve got pain in my middle back, not where I normally get it at all. My fractures are T11, 12, 13 and L1,2. And are a couple of years ago. Coming towards the end of 2 years on teriparatide. The pain feels muscular I think.

T10, 11, 12 of course, I’ve given myself an extra vertebra!

Hi! If you are coughing you could well have pulled a muscle. I don’t envy you at all with fractures there. My T 12 gives me problems as does my six higher ones. The T12 was the worst putting me in hospital for twelve days. I couldn’t even put my feet on the floor. My T twelve is now serious. I’ve had seven spinal fractures in all. So not good. Washing up is the killer for me. Or preparing my dinner. I was offered help but to be honest I don’t want to have frozen meals. I like fresh food.

Have you got something you can take for the pain. If you’ve got trouble with your T10 T11 and T 12 you can bet you’ve got weakness in the rest of your spine. If it’s not too bad you will have to ride it out until you are clear of Covid. Then I would ask your Dr what they’re opinion is. Or you can explain the situation and see what he says. I don’t think he will want to have anything to do with it until you are out of Covid. Is your pain in the middle of between your waist and neck? If so it could be possible to have another fracture there. They are painful but not excruciating like my T12 was. Like I say hang on until you are over covid unless it gets excruciating. In that case call an ambulance and warn them you still may have Covid.

I hope all that helps.

Very sorry to read you have not been well Nuthatch. I had imagined if / when I got the dreaded Covid it would ‘hit my back’ because anytime I’m ill back/hip/neck pains get worse not just the ‘old fracture vertebra’ the general area.

I would hope it is just that and not a fracture, blowing your nose, more time in bed / lying down/resting has altered your normal routine and any of those combined with illness could be the cause.

I hope you both get well and make full recoveries quickly.

Best Wishes

Thank you for your supportive comments. I’ve had to keep going, walking the dog etc so I think it is just that having the virus magnifies existing aches and pains. Still testing positive and 12 days and counting! I have naproxen but try not to take it if possible - my trusty heat pads are helping.
