Back pain teraparatide and dexa scan

I was due to start teriparatide in January but was put on hold because of high protein in my blood, I have since had a real severe flare up in my lower back,I can't even get out of bed unaided so I don't want to start meds until I feel better,it's been 2 weeks so far😜 my problem now is my last dexa scan was almost 2 years ago if I begin treatment how do we know where I'm starting from score wise? Or does it really matter.

If possible, pls do another DEXA scan, it takes only 10 minutes.

Have actually just spoken to OS nurse she thinks my scores wouldn't have changed that much so no need for a dexa scan , but thinks maybe could be another fracture, so will keep going until I feel well enough to start injections x

It sounds like you have suffered another fracture.

How may do you have and are they spontaneous??

If you are having them without trauma of any kind it would be highly beneficial to start the treatment as quickly as possible.

It is as you will know only one injection daily and if you feel ip to giving it yourself it is quite straightforward for someone else to give it for you.

If you are given a Dexa it will show new changes but in my experience the consultant at the bone clinic have X ray taken to confirm. x

Hi, not sure if it is a fracture but OS nurse I spoke to yesterday thinks it quite likely, I haven't had a fracture for about 18 months & they have all been spontaneous really don't feel well at moment & GP about as good as chocolate fire guard, hope to speak to Lloyd's nurses soon to book for injections...they've been sitting in the fridge since middle of January 😂 .....thankyou for your reply x

hi, Unfortunately I know little about Dexa scores, I live, now, in UK but was put on teraparatide in France after suffering a spinal fracture. I injected myself for 18 months, not a problem but, bizzarely, was NOT tested at the end?

I had NO side effects and suffered no more fractures for 8 years.

Now have an annual zoledronate infusion and very happy with that.

Hope this helps

Hi, yes strange they didn't test at the end of treatment, I guess they just follow a plan and continue treatments , it is just maintenance rather than cure , not looking forward to the injections but has to be done....thankyou for your reply x
