Magnesium

Can anyone please point me in the direction of a magnesium supplement or way of taking it which won’t upset my stomach? If I don’t take any I have tingling in my fingers after a couple of days and when I do I have crippling epigastric pain.

Thank you.

I use FutureYou magnesium futureyouhealth.com, you might be able to get a trial sample where you pay postage only. They are very helpful when you email them.

Thank you Fruitandnutcase. I have placed an order as my husband takes magnesium too so if these don’t suit me he will take them!

Hi, I too cannot take oral magnesium. I tried several brands which claimed to be gentle on the stomach but they affected me as severely as the others. So I use two types of transdermal magnesium. I use flakes for a 30 minute foot soak and a magnesium oil spray which I massage on to my hands for 20 to 30 minutes, 3 or 4 times a week. As long as I wash it off my hands thoroughly before eating anything with my hands, it has absolutely no side effects.

Thank you very much MollyStark. I hadn’t realised that was an option. I will certainly give your suggestions a try.

There are several brands available but I buy the BetterYou magnesium range which is a good quality source.

Magnesium citrate can give you an upset stomach and diarrhoea I use magnesium glycinate or malate

Thank you Cappuccinobaby - sadly those upset my tummy too. 😕 This all stems from a MALT lymphoma which left it in a very sensitive state.

I too use the magnesium products from BetterYou. I also use their oral Vit D spray as it means one less tablet to take.

Hi. Magnesium is best absorbed through the skin or from your food. Epsom salts or magnesium flakes in a 40 minute bath. Magnesiun oil is good to spray on your skin. It isn't oil at all, just magnesium flakes dissolved in water. Very cheap to make yourself. When it dries your skin feels like when you come out of the sea. You can wash it off after a time. Lots of videos on You tube of people making their own. Check out food lists which are high in magnesium and find ways to include them in what you eat.

Thank you. We don’t have a bath in our house only showers I’m afraid! Fortunately I have since sourced a magnesium capsule which doesn’t disagree with me.

Yes I take magnesium oxide which seems to suit my delicate stomach but there are other types of magnesium such as citrate. Also you can use a magnesium spray but keep an eye on how many sprays as it all adds to the total of how much you can take 400 mg . Make sure you get a sensitive one as it could cause problems with itchy skin
