I have had 7 x injections of Forteo now and the headaches have got worse as they did last year when I tried it.
It started with the virusy head and flushed cheeks coming on 5 x hours after the injection and lasting around 8 hours. Now, the headache is there almost constantly and I am having to take a lot of painkillers to control it.
I really want to keep up with the Forteo this time, even if I can only get to one year, as my back has been so bad this last year.
If you had headaches on it, how long did they last? Was it the whole time you took it? I read somewhere on here, someone taking Claritin (a antihistamine) to help? Does anyone know any more about this?
Thanks for any help.

Hi, I see you haven’t had any replies yet. I’m afraid I don’t know anything about Forteo but have you looked at Related Posts down the right hand side of this page - maybe you could find information there to answer your question - or even send a personal message to one of the people on those threads.
Sorry to hear your having problems with Forsteo, I've not long finished a two year course of daily injections.
I did have problems at first with the Forsteo, dizzy, headaches and nausea for the first two weeks, I had blood tests which showed I had too much calcium (which can cause this problem) so was told to cut down to one tablet every other day of the calcium tablets (1250mg). In the main that worked, I did have headaches after that but the trouble is I can not say if the headaches I got where connected to taking Forsteo or just trying to hold my head up after spinal fractures / injury I had headaches before starting the Forsteo, but they did get worse until I cut back on the calcium tablets.
I remember being told that some people do have one or two problems for about 10 days two weeks, but might be worth calling or emailing the ROS helpline and talk to one of the nurses?
I know that there are a couple of other drugs on the market now, Terrosa and Movymia what I don't know is if they are the same, just cheaper versions or if there are small differences. Might be worth seeing if you can find out about them bit of a long shot, but when your in pain anything is worth considering!
I do hope you can sort something out as the headaches sound awful.
Thanks for your reply. Nice to hear that the headaches got better for you. Yes I get the dizziness as well. I only take 300mg calcium as a supplement and get the rest from things like broccoli and from salmon (not much dairy). Problem is, I am prone to vestibular migraine anyway which doesn't help. I read somewhere that Forteo was a vasodilater.
Somebody took Claritin before the injection which helped, but I cant find the post, I know I PMd her at the time but cant remember the name LOL
What are you taking now that you have finished Forteo?
Reason I was on Forsteo was because of spinal rebound fractures, Prolia.
Consultant wanted me to go back on Prolia, technically I did extremely well on Prolia going from mid range osteoporosis to mid range osteopenia, only the hospital I was under at the time didn’t suggest I should have an alternative medication and my bad luck I coped spinal fractures and loss of vertebra. I was too worried with Covid if I started Prolia and for some reason I couldn't have the injection on time etc. so it was agreed I do a couple of yearly Infusion of Zoledronic acid (Aclasta). I've had the first one and had one or two side effects lasting 6 weeks. I 've had an updating scan a couple of weeks ago and am very interested to know the results as my last was a month or two after starting the Forsteo.
I do hope you start to get some ease from your headaches, I'm sorry not to be able to help you on Claritin.
