Weighted vest

The way a weighted vest works is this: You start with a weight you are comfortable with. I started with five pounds because I was used to carrying that weight in my backpack. Every few days you can add a small amount of weight. This is why the vests which allow a small increase are better than the ones which have heavier additional weights.
The point is not how much you carry, but the constant increase in the weight which is what challenges the bones to grow stronger (denser!). This is the kind I use, and the weights are only a couple of ounces. There are others, more stylish, but the weights are heavier.

Thank you😀
I lug around 8 pounds now. Must remember to wear it more often. Aiming to get to ten pounds. Apparently the next step is to stop wearing it for a while then start again as we can't continue to add weights indefinitely.
I’m glad you said that! I’ve been off mine for several weeks due to a vacation then a flare of GCA with only enough energy to get in my 4-5 miles without the vest. I don’t feel so bad now giving it a rest.
I hear its good to stop for a while to help bone work for you
When we started to weight walk I started with only one pound as I was not strong my friend used 4 lbs I am now up to the full 4 lbs and may add more but my doctor said my bone is improving so I do not think you need a ton of weight Dr Lani and expert on osteoporosis said do not exceed 10 lbs not necessary see it here nykweightvest.com its for osteoporosis patients
there are many out there but most are for muscle men except this one
Do you wear it all the time or when excersising only? I can't walk at the moment due to plantar fasciitis so wondering if a vest would be any good for me.x
Haha. I bought mine several years ago and I'm afraid I have got out of the habit. But, yes, I wore it for a little while every day at first, gradually building up the time, and would also wear it when I went for a walk, but not a long walk as I would get too tired. I have polymyalgia which means I have less stamina than I used to. Just don't overdo it. Start light and for short times. Gradually increase the time, then gradually increase the weight, The last thing anyone wants to do is strain muscles. You only want the bones to be taxed a little more so they get stronger. The hypervest was originally designed for bodybuilders, but we bonebuilders use it differently!
If you can wear it around your home for several hours a day, even that will make a difference.
Fab. Cheers for the advice.x
Aristotle13 shared that he wears weighted vest for “stepping” regularly -100 steps @ 30cms. I’m soon to adopt this regime because it will be convenient for me to do at home. It will be easier to manage: if I need to take it off I can do so. Walking the dog, not so easy. 😀I’m travelling at the mo. Didn’t think a weighted vest would go well through airport security!🤔
Thanks for mentioning as reminded me I have one still boxed up!!
Ha! There’s no evidence that they assist with bone building in the box!😆
