I’ve got a Hypervest Elite which is lovely and comfortable to wear but it wasn’t reasonable.

I have a Hypervest Pro, also expensive, that I bought in the UK. Its advantage over the cheaper vests is that it has lots of tiny removable weights, so you can add them very slowly, greatly reducing the risk of injury.

Margaret Martin has this video review of the Hypervest Pro

I bought mine from Amazon in 2020 - there are lots on there and I imagine you can return it is it isn’t suitable but make sure you wouldn’t have to pay return postage as they are very heavy when they are packed. The vest is good because you can adjust all of the little weights. Amazon still sells it but I am horrified by the price of it now. I certainly didn’t pay anything like that. I can’t understand the massive price increases.

I also bought an OMI PEMF mat to lie on - I think in 2021 when I fractured my sacrum and it too has more than doubled in price. It worked really well for my pain but the price is so high now I doubt if I could afford to replace it if it stopped working.

Many thanks for your very helpful advice. I will have a look after I finish work today.

Can I ask if it pulls on your shoulders? I had shoulder surgery a few years ago and it can get aggravated by carrying a shopping bag for too long for example?

I've got the Hypervest Elite too, love it! Well worth the extra bit of money for the quality manufacture, easily adjusted snug fit, little pockets all over for the weights so you can build up gradually and adapt to your back (see the Margaret Martin video). Dare I say it looks quite sexy too, especially if like me you've got curves ;-)

I got it from a French site, but I imagine you can get it in the UK too as it's an American brand I think.

My rib cage was deformed via meningitis when aged 10, I have epilepsy since age 14, thus fractured or broken every rib in my body at some stage, 400 + seizures, osteoporosis, I am male aged 67 just retired, and find it uncomfortable to sleep, moving in bed, would a Hypervest help in some sort of support, it would need a LOT of adjustment, I live in UK?

Hello Adlon57

Do you have physio or OT support? - Might be best to ask for their help / advice. When i asked the physio I see (part of a spinal care team) he explained that I had too much spinal damage to use a Hypervest. But to first to build up breath control then go for the support of a brace; made my orthotics team. - I did have one to wear at night for a short time; I now only use it during the day and I have one for in the water.

I also had OT advice on pillows and sorts of beds most helpful for me. I cannot sleep on my sides or roll onto my side I also have neck problems. I now am able to sleep for two - even three hour periods during the night I then get up, move about /few excerises before resettling with the advice on beds / pillows etc. am able to go back to sleep within 30 minutes now. I found sleep is so important for my wellbeing. I hope you are able to find something/ someone that is helpful to solve this issue.

Best Wishes

Thanks Posy, yes I fear, as they would say too far gone, a brace not really feasible, I have a V pillow, due to my broken shoulder [clavicle], very individual, one of the problems if I want to go somewhere, the right sort of pillows? Very similar to yourself, I'm living by myself, now into full retirement, my sleeping periods are NEVER routine, and like yourself have to get up to 'adjust' the body 'mainframe'🙄 I have adjusted the house to my needs, after 20 years, although just found out that my heart is fine👌, my brain cannot recognise right pain signals [high pain threshold] as you said the right amount of sleep is paramount. Just my luck the orthotics specialists for this part of the Province [Northern Ireland] are firmly situated in west, me firmly in the east! I am a history nerd🧐 so will spend many hours in my "mancave" at night!

Sleep well😴👍

That’s a difficult question. The ideal if you can’t speak to physio or OT would be to find somewhere you could try a vest on.

Mine came from Germany via Amazon and although you could probably return it - it was incredibly heavy when it was all packaged up - not the vest just the weights because you get a weight for each little pocket whether or not you actually use them all - and I don’t know how feasible returning it would be. If only I lived nearer to you I would bring it along for you to try but alas that isn’t possible.

Even without the weights it is very comfortable to wear and it zips up to hold you snuggly - the front and back are fixed and you widen it with the stretch lacing on the sides but then I have no fractures to worry about. I hope you can find a solution to your very painful problem.

I would have to ask my GP IF they have any 'titter of a wit' they would pass my question on, and so on, and so on, etc, in Northern Ireland, IF I get a reply it could take years, if a certain Dense Ulster People party 'allows' the government to "work" who knows?😖🙃🥺😵🙄

Sorry about that,150,000 people went on strike 18th Jan. right across the Province! Something is going to happen over here, those certain "Dense Ulster People" party hopefully their ears are glowing a bit😒😒
