Lisinopril Cough

I started Lisinopril for hypertension about 6 weeks ago and it is working very well, but I have been coughing steadily for the last 4 weeks and I think that it must be the culprit because I don't have any other symptoms, just a very persistent cough. Has anyone else in this forum had this problem?

Sadly a cough is common with the pril medications. Between10 & 20% suffer from it I believe.

Speak to who prescribed the LisinoPRIL….a cough is a well known reaction….called the PRIL cough …..to all the BP meds ending in PRIL…

Maybe you will need to change it.

I've got the cough and it is killing me. Was just forced to stop taking lisinopril. It worked really good for about 6 months. Ive since been experiencing a persistent cough for at least 6 weeks now. Ive tried everything to make it stop but its still here. I read that the cough could last a month/s after stopping the pill.

I'm sorry that you ended up with the cough. It can take quite a while to go away, but it does get better after you stop the Rx, although it can take quite awhile to clear up completely.,

Yes, takes time to go after stopping medication. Am still suffering after five weeks. BHF website says:

one in ten people experience a dry, irritating cough. If you have any side effects, let your GP know as soon as possible. In the event that your GP stops prescribing the ACE inhibitor and gives you alternative medication, it's worth remembering that it can take eight to 12 weeks for the cough to disappear.
