Please can someone advise me what to take for high blood pressure as i had the paramedics out late last night because of very bad symptoms like sweating/dizziness/high blood readings/breathlessness/shaky and pain in my chest. My GP gave me some tablets three weeks ago and they are called Lercanidipine but i read the leaflet and it said if you have kidney or liver problems then not to take them - i had also had the paramedics five weeks ago and that is why the GP gave me these tablets. I was told last night by the paramedics to contact my GP - but the surgery is closed and i cannot get hold of a GP - so i rang 111 and they got a GP to ring me who said that she could not help me and to contact my own GP - so i would appreciate any help with any information of what i can buy over the counter that will help - thank you for any help you can give me. Keep well.

If it's possible to follow the guidelines on this page, you should go a long way to reducing your BP without medication. But have a word with your GP and discuss other tablets that would be safe for you to take. There are lots, but you would need a doctor to decide which ones would be best for you. We are not medically trained and can't prescribe, only advise and suggest, as we are patients ourselves. very best wishes. XX
Hi there - thank you for your help - i will have a look at the site and see if there is a natural way to do it = i really appreciate you telling me about this - i do not want to see the doctor again as i told him already that they are no good for me - but he said i had to take them. Onwards and Upwards. Thank you for the help and keep safe. xx
How high was your blood pressure?Do you have kidney or liver problems? You can't really go it alone with this one so try to get through to your GP urgently. If you need meds and lercanidipine isn't suitable there are so many others.Lifestyle changes make a huge difference as does losing weight if needed but living in the longer term with high bp isn't great.I was diagnosed last year at 244/133...my last reading at my GP's two years before was normal.I don't know what caused it to jump up but it has caused my heart to enlarge a bit and I have a mild arrhythmia.I've taken the meds and made the lifestyle changes and I am gradually reducing the dose which is now half what it was when I left hospital.Hopefully my heart will reduce in size too.Hope you get it sorted.
Hi there - sorry for the late reply - my daughter made me go and stay with her so as she could keep an eye on me. My blood pressure was 205/124 and approximately three weeka ago it was 169/101 - i have rung the GP today and she says that i have to stay on the Lercanidipine tablets - i mentiones about my stage three kidney disease and enlarged fatty liver but she said to take the tablets - i told her i will not take them as i did not feel it was the right thing to do given my other problems - so she is now going to prescribe Losartan blood pressure medication - so i will have to wait and see if they will do the trick and she actually wants to see me in a month - i have never been to this surgery before. I do hope that you get well soon and that your heart reduces in size - thank you for your input - take care and stay safe.
I'm glad the GP sorted you out with losartan as it sounds like you need to take something but better to be safe than sorry with your liver and kidney problems. My lvh (enlarged heart) is mild but it alarms me more than the doctors. They say keep the bp down and it should be OK.The bp is low...ironically probably too low now hence reducing my meds.Keep us updated.
Hiya, i take losartan for high blood pressure, 50mg daily, so far no side effects, my bp was in the range of 160/95 highest reading three years ago, it has dropped to 110/75 since taking losartan. However if im stressed or have anxiety problems it does go up, im trying to exercise and eat healthy foods which my doctor have advised me to do and have reduced my meds and told to monitor my bp daily and keep a record for the next appointment.
Hello
Have you looked at a website created by Sarah Brewer? You will find much useful information there and it may help.

Hi, sorry to hear about your issues. It can be difficult to find a medication which will suit you as some have more side effects than others. I've changed mine many times! Lifestyle changes can really help. Be active, lose excess weight, reduce salt, etc. And reduce stress if possible.
I bought a blood pressure monitor for home so that when I see my GP, I can take some readings in. Good luck.
Hi there - i am disabled so i cannot walk far - but i do try and do upper body exercises - i do not take salt or sugar nor do i eat red meat - i eat vegetables and pasta and of course salad/fruit and drink loads of water so as to try and keep my one kidney healthy - but it is at stage 3. I too have my own blood pressure monitor - so i keep up with using it often and tell the GP waht my pressure is. Thank you for your input - stay well and keep safe.
And you Xeena. Sounds like you are doing all that you can so I hope your GP will be able to help you.
I live in hope - the trouble is that now i do not trust GP's as i have all of my medical records since i was very young and it is surprising what they put in your notes - believe me it was a true eye opener - i will never trust any doctors as they have filled me up with tablets all my life and i think this is now the outcome - i was born with a cleft lip and blood problems and i think that i have had the blood problem all my life. Keep well and stay safe.
Hi There,
I had BP that was very high for years and had the same dilemma. I didn’t want to take BP drugs because they all make a statement regarding having a healthy liver.
I found a Japanese herb that did the trick. It’s called Nattokaniese which is a fermented soybean. Do you were on research and talk to your doctor about it before taking. I can’t tell you how many blood pressure medicines I tried that did not work and this did.
Good luck!
Hi there - thank you so much for this information and yes i will research it and mention it to the GP - fingers crossed. I do hope that you have your blood pressure under control now. Stay well and keep safe.
Thank you 🙏🏻. My blood pressure is finally after all these years, under control. My last reading was 135/84 which I have never gotten from Pharmaceuticals prescribed by doctors.
Nattokanaise has been used for thousands of years for a array of things. I couldn’t believe it would be as effective as it is. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
I'm going to buy some Nattokinase. The trouble is - it's not cheap.
The cheapest I could find is 16.00 at local store. Here online is 20.00 I put link below (read reviews of
Product before purchasing). I look at the benefits as out weighing the cost. I feel better, I take less chemical drugs, and who knows how many years I’m gaining.
I agree totally. Pharmaceuticals have so many side effects.
