How long before upped dose takes effect.

I'm 61 in very good health, attend the gym 4 days a week, 30 mins cardio followed by 40 mins on weights, my cardio function is very good, fast recovery rate. I've a good balance diet, no weight issues. I've been on 50mg losartan for a few years now, had a check 2 weeks ago and my reading was 170/100 wow. It looks like it may be a hereditary issue. My dose is now 100mg and I'm wondering how long it will take to have an effect. Been on the higher dose for 10 days now and don't see any change in levels. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Bunwithagun, I'd be a bit concerned that it was having no effect after 10 days. Larger doses should kick in fairly soon. Did your doctor not ask you to re-attend for evaluation at some point? If he/she did, then leave it until the time of that testing, but if no arrangement for that was made, I'd give it another couple of weeks and then make a routine appointment again, to discuss.

Hi Callendersgal, thank-you for your reply, I've an appointment tomorrow at the doctor's, hopefully get this sorted out. Interestingly, an hour after a session at the gym my readings were lower, 148/92, next day, 155/96. Still on the high side.

I was put on 50 losartan. This had no effect. Increased to 100 still no effect. Then added 5mg of felodipine. Blood pressure went down. Decided losartan couldn’t have been working so I stopped taking it. Just taking 5mg of felodipine and blood pressure is fine. I don’t think doctors do things probably. Instead of changing my medication they just decided to add another one regardless

Hi Rocheen, thank-you for this information, I had another check at the doctor's today and my BP has dropped to 142/88. I'm pleased and so is the doc. Going back in a month for another check to monitor if all is still ok.
