Olmesartan (Omesar) and NSAIDs

My doctor has put me on Olmesartan 10mg in addition to the Amlopidine 5gm I'm already on. To further lower my BP from 150.

The patient leaflet says not to use NSAIDs with the Olmesartan.

The doctor is away til Monday,so I'm asking the community if they have any experience of this.

I use naproxen, and ibuprofen ( very sparingly) for arthritis and wonder if this sparing use (one tablet every second day) is ok. .Or is there an alternative ARB available, which I could ask for on Mon when he will ring me back?

Hi Madlegs,

I take both amlodipine and losartan (which is an ARB). I have just checked the patient information leaflet for losartan and it states 'Take particular care if you are taking the following medicines while under treatment with losartan potassium ... non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as indometacin, including cox-2-inhibitors (medicines that reduce inflammation, and can be used to help pain) as they may reduce the blood pressure lowering effect of losartan'. I would suspect that the same would apply to all ARBs.

Since your GP is away until Monday, it might be an idea to speak to the pharmacist at your local pharmacy. He/she may be able to give some guidance but, if not, then speak to your GP on Monday. It sounds like you are only on a low dose of anti-inflammatories but always best to speak to your GP.
