I'm taking Amolodipine for raised blood pressure. I also take 1000mg calcium for pre -osteoporosis. I am finding conflicting advice whether Amolodipine (calcium antagonist) should be taken with calcium. Can anyone help?

AMOLODIPINE WITH CALCIUM TABLETS
Hi there, it may help to ask your pharmacist 👍
I was just going to say, your pharmacist is the expert. But I see Dizzy two has already replied,!
I can’t be definitive about the tablet conflict. I do know that I had to come off Amlodipine because they made my legs ache so much. If you have having those sorts of symptoms I can see how that could be misleading in a diagnosis. I went onto Ramipril and the aches have gone. Hope that helps in some way
The effects of amlodipine may be reduced if you take calcium with it - I'm not sure if taking them separately, say a few hours apart, reduces that interaction or not, so worth asking a pharmacist. The form of calcium may also make a difference, as in whether it's calcium carbonate or some other chelated form. The only other thing I'd say is that's a high dose of calcium - if its for osteopaenia, its usually combined with Vitamin D (as in Adcal or Calcichew) and I wonder if you are also taking Vitamin K2 along with it...
