Less than a week in and my lips/tongue are swollen I’ve put 5lb on and feel tired.
Tried a week off meds drinking beetroot juice apple cider vinegar walking eating healthy food no gradually went from around 140/80 to 174/100 so started Losartan.
It’s med was Amlopodine- itching flushing
2nd Lercanipidine- ended up in A&E thought I was having heart attack turned out to be acute indigestion!
I am surprised that, Losartan is still been used there. Here in Germany it was taken off the shelves last year because of some issues to do with cancer. I was later put on Candesartan 1 A Pharma, 16 mg
Here in the States, it’s still being prescribed. I was just prescribed it too. I read about it online and it appears it was just certain lot numbers from certain manufacturers. Those were pulled off shelves.
My rheumatologist takes losartan! It was prescribed to me by a clinical pharmacology lead for my county after I got swollen ankles on amlodipine. He did say losartan doesn’t suit everybody, though, and recommended a kidney function test after a month of taking it.
Thanks for your reply. I have a blood test booked in 2 weeks to check kidney function. Speaking to my GP this morning regarding the swelling and weight gain.
Hope you manage to find something that works for you. Just for information I read somewhere to that coming off losartan suddenly can cause a rebound spike of high blood pressure. Take care and good luck!
Do you think I should stick with this only been taking it 4 days ? Someone replied saying it was no longer prescribed in Germany and I read it had been recalled here a couple of years ago.
Amodipline gave me agonizing muscle cramps. Switched to Losartan. Itchy ankles which I can put up with. It seems that BP meds all have side effects for people. There's a few more to try but maybe find a different drug family? Best of luck.
Hi, I take amlodipine and losartan and have done for the past 8 months. At first, the side effects were awful but I persevered . I still occasionally experience side effects even after 8 months but those side effects are becoming less frequent and they work for me with regard to lowering blood pressure. From what I have read and the research I have done, most blood pressure medications cause side effects by nature of what they do. I hope you are able to find something that you can tolerate.
I have just spoken to my doctor and she’s told me to stop as swelling is a rare but serious side effect of losartan. Not sure what next step will be? I’m to take nothing for 2/3 days to get them out of my system before starting another.
I’ve been taking Losartan for 7 days now. So far so good. Started on 50mg, upped to 100mg 4 days ago. Numbers are still high but lower than before. Doc wants me to stick with it a couple of weeks to get full effect. Said if still not at target then will change it to the combined losartan/diuretic.
Hi,I keep having to try new book med...Ramipril zapped my sodium levels,Amlodipine gives me pains everywhere, beta blockers...no, then doxazosin .......dreadful ...couldn't function, blurred vision ,unstable ,dizzy ,spaced out...what to do now. I take by med because I had a stroke(clot on brain) 2 years ago .Iam really active and hate all these side effects..no idea what's next. You are not on your own.
Really sorry to hear you are going through such a worrying time.
It seems you have tried food to try lower these readings naturally....and for whatever reason things have not improved.
It sounds as if you keep getting histamine reactions everytime you try another medication.Have you looked into histamine intolerance diets?I know its rare but so are severe reactions which could mean you are in that 1%.
Heres a few thoughts...
Blood pressure medication affects different people in different ways.
I chose to try olive leaf extract, and upped my intake of magnesium. My readings before all this 200/120....blinding headaches, blurred vision.
Within three days my BP came down to 140/80 that was three months ago.
I upped my intake of magnesium too, now my reading is steady day after day around 127/ 70.... i am 66 and actively cycle and walk most days.
Foods that create nitrogen oxide will lower blood pressure too.
I did find hibiscus tea to hard on my digestion, foods like spinach, bananas, (high in magnesium, potassium)will help....l-arginine or l-citrulline will make the blood vessels relax (amazon) Everyone responds differently to both food and medicine...you will find something that works for you.For me it was olive leaf extract...no side effects!!!
Use medication in the short term whilst you try the natural pathways to restore your wellbeing.
Do not fret...there are plenty of natural ways to help control your BP...stabilise and lower it...Hopefully the peace of mind and tranquility of body will return.I wish you peace and inner happiness.
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and I will definitely look into the oil leaf extract. I’m on my 5th day taking Bendroflumethiazide feel slightly nauseous and have palpitations and pounding heart beat noises occasionally, which I think is called pulsalite tinnitus and is often attributed to BP medications. My sister was in these for several years with no trouble but recently had to have something stronger.
I am trying to stay positive for my own well-being and my family are loosing patience with me now ☺️ As is my GP
Hi again on reading your back story you have been through all the meds I have had, with all the same side effects as myself. I also went through all the joint pain on every cholesterol drug they put me on until I said no more. I now take benecol which is plant based little shots which works albeit it a bit slower. Between cholesterol meds bp meds and Clopidigrel I was climbing my stairs on hands and knees, with the pain. I have been back and forward to gp for past few years trying to sort it out and sometimes I think they thought I was making it up but eventually they have worked with me and listened. Like you I wonder what doctors and medical profession would prescribe for themselves.
I know Shadynook has experienced acute indigestion with Lercanidipine but I wondered has anyone else? I have GERD but my symptoms were made far worse when I started Lercanidipine (started 1st January) along with Atorvastatin (started 21st January), and initially my GERD was controlled just fine by Esomeprazole until end of January. My doctor has given me Lansoprazole for the reflux it is not helping that much. So that's why I feel the 2 new meds are the problem. I would be grateful for your thoughts.
My Mum is off all bp meds at the moment after being in hospital for four days with very low Potassium, sodium and Magnesium levels. She's at home waiting for the nurse to come out and do blood tests, but that's another frustrating story. Her bp has crept up slightly, but her GP isn't too concerned about it at the moment, wish she could be free of bp meds as they've caused her so many problems this last few months, so I can deffo sympathise with you. Do hope you get sorted soon.
