I had asked on another thread about Amlodipine which I had been prescribed for Level 1 hypertension. Everyone here was so nice and helpfil. Howevrr, I had a long tslk wiyh my GP and he agreed yo switch ig ti Ramipril 2.5mg. Many people I know are taking this, including my husband. Because I trust you on this site, any yhoughts or reactions to Ramipril? I suffer with anxiety and do get nervous about new meds. Thank you.

I have been on it for years ,10mg a day. No side effects, it’s considered to be cardio- protective so a good one. The dose u are on is very low so I would be surprised if u get any side effects.

I had rampiril but it gave me a continuous cough so changed to losartan. Apart from that, it did it's job

Just don’t worry if you develop a cough…there are a lot of meds ending in ‘Pril’ & some do cause the ‘pril cough’.

Just have a word with your doctor…if you do get it, you will probably get over it…others change meds…but it’s isn’t usually too much of a problem.

Good luck with it.

Hi I've been on Ramipril for a long time. I've never had any side effects. I was previously on atenolol they gave me side effects. When my gp put me on ramipril they made such a difference to my high BP bonus no side effects. I do hope you give them a go. I know we all react differently but 2 of my friends also take ramipril with no side effects.

Hi, I was on Ramipril for about 7 years with no side affects. One morning I wakened up with a funny sensation on my lips and a bit swollen. As the morning progressed I had more and more swelling and by lunchtime I looked like a duck!!! I called the GP and he said come to see me right away I think I know what it is but I want to see you to confirm. I turned out this was serious and was a well known risk/ side effect of Ramipril. He took me off Ramipril and I'm not allowed to go on any of the 'pril' drugs. I would say try it but be aware that this can happen.

Hi gaelianbr22 . If you are referring to angioedema, the swelling you can get with some meds, ramipril also affected me in a similar way and caused a mild aki too (affected my kidneys). I am not to take ace inhibitors at all now and was given doxazosin instead. Yes, JoyceMary the message is, as others have said, we are all different in how we react to meds. My brother has taken it for years, no problems. Take it slow is my advice and let your body get used to it.

Hi

I have been on Ramipril for years and not had any side effects. Try not to feel too anxious, and if for any reason it does not suit, your GP will try another.

Thanks so much, can I ask what this combo brings BP down to? Am so fed up that I am still struggling even on 10 Ramipril especially as have no weight, genetic, salt, exercise , diet etc etc related issues and never have had.

I’m in both -Amlodopine 5 mg and Ramipril 2.5. Pleased to say no side effects from either.

Im not sure it's relevant what it brings it down to, to be honest Joyce, everyone is different and are likely to get a different result. I am also on Indapamide, I began in Ramipril, indapamide was added a couple of months after starting Ramipril, and Amlopdipine was added recently when my BP jumped up due to another medication I was taking.
