I've been on the above new med for 6wks and have also had covid 19 vacc 2wks ago. I'm not 100% sure whether the fuzzy head and lethargy is down to the vaccination or the new drug. Anybody noticed side effects from Lercanidipine please?

Good Morning. I am on my 4th med in 10 weeks! Lercanipidine was the second and I ended up in A&E with what turned out to be acute indigestion! After a few days of taking it I started having acid reflux which I’d never suffered from. Amlopodine was first which gave me itchy legs and a flushed face. My doctor then tried a diuretic Indapamide which gave me a racing heart, pounding in my ears day/night and anxiety 😟

I was at a point where I decided I’d had enough of meds so I bought cartons of organic beetroot juice and apple cider vinegar to take daily and combined with my healthy lifestyle ie walking every day eating low carb foods I hoped I could take control. I took my bp same time every day but after 3 days of staying around 140/80 it gradually went up to around 170/100.

I am now into my first week of taking the 4th Ned Losartan and already side effects are rearing their ugly heads!! No energy, headache, swelling of lips and tongue and I’ve put 5lb on in less than a week!!

My GP is very supportive and I have a good rapport with him but I just don’t know where he’ll go from here? My family are of the opinion I’m not giving meds a chance, they might be right but they’re not the ones suffering the side effects.

I have to remain hopeful there is a tablet out there that will lower my bp without ruining my daily life.

Best wishes Kate

I have been reading your posts with your hard challenges. For what it's worth, let me try and break down your journey. 1. amlodipine-------calcium channel blocker -- ------itchy legs, flushed face

2. Lercanipidine-----calcium channel blocker -------indigestion

3. Indapamide-------diuretics/water pills ------------racing heart, pounding ears, anxiety

4. Losartan----------angiotensin receptor blockers--weight gain, swelling, headache

I am not a medic, but I have taken different classes of drugs for blood pressure. One class that is also popular is an ACE (angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors ). But, I doubt with your sensitivity that if you take that class alone, you would get a similar reaction to the ARB class you are taking now because its function is similar.

If I remember correctly, you were placed on low doses because the higher the dose of a drug the more side effects you will get. Some are placed on low doses of two or more drugs to avoid side effects.

Can you not ask your GP to send you to a blood pressure specialist since you have already experimented quite a bit to get the right drug without side effects for you?

I just noticed your post was twenty days ago. Hope you have the problem solved.

Let’s hope I’m on the last leg of this journey !! I started taking Lisinopril 10mg two days ago and yesterday I had the lowest reading I’ve ever had.... 129/74.Apart from some slight facial flushing I feel fine (early days) 🤞🏻

Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor class drug, the one I mentioned that you had yet to take in the above post. There are lower doses if the side effects act up. Do hope it continues to work for you. Sometimes the side effects abate with time.

The reason it’s the GP’s last drug to try is because I had hypertension about 3/4 years ago and was given Ramapril another ACE inhibitor which caused hair loss. I lost a considerable amount of weight and was able to come off it. I’m hoping and praying Lisinopril doesn’t have the same effect !!! Only time will tell.

The drugs one takes for blood pressure and for AF can have the side effect of hair loss, unfortunately. I have had some hair loss also. I have at various times taken Rampril and Lisinopril for high blood pressure. I am currently taking Eliquis which although it is not an antiarrhythmic drug, it is an anticoagulant drug taken to help prevent stroke. For some Eliquis causes hair loss. Patients in my position have a double whammy for hair loss.

Now I am not on any ACE, but there has been no regrowth of hair. Is it the anti-coagulant, and can my hair ever grow back? I'm not supposed to go off the anti-coagulant, so I cannot test that one .

None of the drugs I have taken or am taking have caused weight loss. Now that is one side effect I would welcome.

It sounds as if you are off to a good start with Lisinopril. Usually side effects diminish with time. Hope that is your case.

Tell your gp or pharmacist straight away with any swelling of lips or tongue. Sounds like allergic reaction could suddenly get worse and affect breathing . I have no medical knowledge just going by allergic reaction I have had in the past.

I took this drug for about 10 days recently due to high blood pressure.

For me it was very, very dangerous. It took me to a place of the deepest darkest depression I have ever experienced and I was as close to suicide as I have ever been. I was in complete despair and barely able to function.

As soon as I stopped taking the drug, I felt better, much more like my normal self. I am still reeling from the effects and how close I came to suicide. I had no control over my depression at all.

I have heard it described elsewhere as a living hell of a drug so I am not the only one.

I share only to warn people that if you feel in the least bit depressed on this drug, stop taking it.

I insisted my Dr. report the effect it had.

I was on lercanidipine for a few months before i had to come off it due to bad side effects. The added bonuses it gave me were the worst acid reflux you could imagine, severe bloating at the bottom of my ribcage which made it hard to breathe on exertion, erectile dysfunction, difficulty urinating, arrhythmias and palpitations. It is an awful drug which should be taken off the market.
