I was prescribed 2.5 mg of amlopidine once a day. So far I have taken 2. Had a bad dizzy spell on the first day but saw significant reductions in blood pressure. The second day isn't over. But I am waiting for that dizzy spell. What is everyone's experience with side effects and how have you handled it?

Hi,

I take 5mg of amlopidine once a day. At first I felt a bit fuzzy headed. This stopped after about a week. I used to take my tablet at lunch time but now take it about 8 o'clock in the morning and find this is better for me.

Dizziness is common when you first start treatment as your body has to adjust. Glad your blood pressure has come down.

If you still have problems after a few weeks have a word with your doctor.

I hope I overcome the dizzy spells. I hope I am as lucky as you and it all ends within a week.

I was put on 10mg once a day of amlodopine and had no side effects. I am also on 10mg ramipril, 2mg bendroflumethiazide and 8mg doxazosin. I take all my blood pressure medications at bedtime to ensure a good drop in my bp during sleep. I achieve 120/60 during the day.

What is your current bp?

Still a little way to go to get to good pressures. It is normal and necessary for the blood pressure to drop while you are asleep.

My doctor told me to take the medication once a day and in the evening.

I chose to take my bp medications at night because of the need for bp to fall while asleep - the time that a lot of people have strokes and heart attacks. I am now taking part in a piece of clinical research that is looking at the best time of day to take bp medications. Fortunately I was randomised to nighttime.
