I am Amanda. Got disgnosed with prehypertension in my late teens and progressed to full blown hypertension which was diagnosed about 3years ago. I have dreaded the diagnosis for a long time and I have been in denial( since my dad died at 45 of a stroke some 18yrs ago) I know hypertension has no symptoms but I constantly feel unwell, dizzy, spaced out, uninterested in life, gloomy, hopeless, and the like. I just feel like I am gonna die soon. I have tried lifestyle modification for about a year but I still require drugs. My best BP is usually not less than 145/100 without drug no matter how hard I try. I have accepted my medication now and my diagnosis but I keep feeling dizzy and afraid. I wonder if it is the med side effect (amlodipine and aldomet) or just some anxiety. I really wished I could feel well and strong I wouldn't be borderd about my diagnosis, I'll just take my drugs religiously. Anyone having anxiety complicating hypertension I'll love to talk these feelings away.
My diagnosis : I am Amanda. Got... - High Blood Pressu...
My diagnosis
Forgot to add I am 29 years old. Any young hypertensive available??
The worst thing you can do is worry . Dont let having high blood pressure ruin your life. Your natural BP looks good to me . I was on amlodopine . I could not stand up for long unless I was holding on to something . Very bad side effects . 120/80 is only achieved by very few people . My bp is around 170/100 . I am not worried about it . Yes it would be nice if it was lower but so far i have not found a medicine with no side effects . Have you thought about taking your medicine last thing at night then the side effects might not be too bad during the day ? I would also go back to doctor and get medicine changed . You have to think about yourself and the quality of your life . If your doctor says you have to have them say no you cannot suffer like this as life is not going to be worth living . Take care Amanda just relax and dont worry , James
Thanks James for your time and I pray you find a medication that works for you. Side effects can be terrible but I can manage some little side effects like fatigue and occasional dizziness but I think I have some anxiety also that is making me constantly feeling unwell. Maybe I'll try another drug soon to see if I feel better.
Hi Amanda, I've had high blood pressure since I was 25. I'm 52 now. I also have B12 deficiency and my BP was very hard to control before my B12 deficiency was treated. Can you ask to have your B12 tested? Over the years I've tried lots of meds but have settled on Ramipril which works well for me. I don't even think about having high BP. I run 6km a day, no dairy, try to eat healthy and maintain a healthy weight. I wish you well. With advances in medicine these days, you should be able to live a full and happy life despite having high BP. Sending love and a hug to you 💕
i think we should all be on B12 supplement . It has an amazing effect on improving memory and general health with no obvious side affects
I was living in India when I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency. I have to have injections as I don't absorb it but it has literally changed my life!
That's cool then. I'll find a way to get mine checked.
Just B12 . One a day . Strength is 1000mcg . No side affects . Good Luck , James
It appears that your GP prescribed your blood pressure meds. You are on combo therapy which trials say are better than mono therapy because there will be less side effects taking lower doses of two drugs rather than higher doses of one drug. You do not give the dosage of your drugs.
I would suggest that you go on drugs.com to read about the side effects of the drugs that you are taking now, and any drugs you will take in the future in order to be informed about the drugs you take.
I would also suggest you ask your GP to refer you to a cardiologist who specializes in high blood pressure because you are young and because you have a family background of heart disease. Your father dying so young, and your fear of following in his path contributes to your anxiety. A specialist could better explain the relationship between hypertension and stroke.
The third suggestion is that you ask your GP the reason why he put you on a calcium channel blocker ( amlodipine) and alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist (aldomet) . There might be other combination of drugs that might suit you better. I really haven't come across others taking alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, but many take ACEs or ARBs. I myself take Olmesartan 20 mg. (an ARB) with Amlodipine 5 mg (the calcium channel blocker).
I would like to address your fear. Knowledge is power. The more you understand something the less fearful you will be. I suggest you do a LOT of reading about high blood pressure and the drugs used to control it. Also read about natural ways to control hypertension to be added to your drug regime. You might have less anxiety once you have control of the knowledge of hypertension. You might want to focus on controlling your blood pressure first before dealing with anxiety that may surprisingly go away.
Twenty-nine is such a fantastic age. Enjoy it. If only I could go back about 50 years. Do let us know how you get on.
Thanks dear. I commenced aldomet when I started trying to conceive 2yrs ago. Just had their baby in January and breastfeeding so I have to remain on aldomet which is safe for breastfeeding. I try to live healthily but not as disciplined most times!! Thanks for the info and stay safe.
I am also 29 and have been hypertensive since age 19. I wish l had your numbers. My diastolic readings are usually higher than your top number. My hypertension specialist says that my body has gotten used to the pressure being so extremely elevated. I currently take 8 pressure pills as well as weekly IV meds.
