I had a ablation for SVT 14 months ago but I have been getting hypertension when asleep a couple of times every night. It feels like my heart is trying to go into a SVT attack starts off quite fast but goes down in 20 minutes. My blood pressure goes up to 175 over 80. I have been trying to get a solution from my GP and a private doctor but have not had a reason why this happens. I had a blood pressure monitor fitted that just worked every hour, of course it did not catch the problem, so I got no reaction from that. It is getting too much for me now, dreading the nights, when it goes up I can feel the pulsing in my head and get quite dizzy. Does anybody else experience this I need reasssurance ! I,m afraid I will have a stroke it’s in both sides of my family. I,m 77 and active.

Hypertension in the night
Hi Welshbird 123. I'm sorry to hear what you're experiencing and can quite understand your fears. I can't help you I'm afraid but you could try ringing Blood Pressure UK.org on Helpline: 020 7882 6218 to see if they can help you and point you in the right direction. Good luck, I hope you can get some help from them.
as springcross says. In the meantime, I wonder if you are sufficiently hydrated? Your blood pressure increases if the blood is a bit sluggish because it’s not got enough liquid??
When I attended A and E I was told to drink more water which I am doing! When I had SVT attacks I passed lots and lots of urine which is happening with me when my blood pressure goes up at night. I would think I pass about 2 pints during the night and can,t sleep because I can hear a horrible whooshing in my head with each heartbeat. Thanks for your response it helps me deal with this.
I was having these surges at night and had numerous tests and nothing showed up. I am about to have a sleep apnea test to see if I am stopping breathing. I now take blood pressure medication in the morning and at bedtime it has helped a bit
I know I don,t have sleep apnea,I,ve never slept very well and can hear every noise that happens in the night. I have dreadful tinnitus and my hearing is good I think it’s called hyperacusis. There is something wrong with my blood pressure but I can,t get any response from doctors A and E and saw a private doctor last week. I have never had high blood pressure ,now this is happening. The private doctor gave me amlodipine but that did not stop my attacks at night, last night it started at 176 over 89 and heart 64 then it was going down to 153 over 73 heart 58 and was constant through the night. I had about 2 hours sleep. Thanks for your reply
lack of sleep can make your blood pressure higher. I also have tinnitus but I have vestibular migraine so that is common. I was taking Telmistartan but that gave me severe tinnitus and blocked ears. I now take lercadapine and nebivlol in the morning and cantestartan at bedtime. It seems to be helping as I am having less ‘surges’ at night
I have tried to get to the bottom of this hypertension and get no answer even after spending 11 hours in A and E. I was told to drink water which I do throughout the day, but this was not the answer to my problem. Seen my doctor a few times even that was not satisfaction. My daughter paid a lot of money for a private doctor, she recommended amlodipine even that was not good,I had horrible side effects the next day. I,ve changed my doctor a few weeks ago so now am going to make an appointment this week.
I spent 2 weeks in hospital and they still didn’t find a reason 🤷♀️
