Oxybutynin

Just wondered if anyone else is on Oxybutynin. Though only a week. It is really not agreeing with me. Want to try longer before contacting doctor. If you are on this, have you been on it for a long time. Did it get better after a few weeks. I felt better before I started on this. Thanks for any answers.

Hi, I tried tolterodine which I think is similar and I couldn't tolerate it either but then I don't seem to tolerate much drug wise (I have fibromyalgia too). Everyone reacts differently to medication but I wouldn't be reluctant to speak to your doctor with your concerns. In theory they know best lol! It's sad that we are always reluctant to trouble our doctors as at the end of the day that's what they are paid for 🤦. Best of luck, sure you will get lots of responses on your question as I think it's a popular drug for bladder issues X

Thank you Loobielu. If there is no improvement with the side effects , the worst of which is anxiety, I will contact my doctor. It has to be by their E- service though.

I tried this, probably stuck it out for a couple of months. I don’t remember anxiety but it gave me a dry mouth to the point I would lose my voice, I could only speak in short sentences. I also didn’t find it made any difference to the frequency and urgency symptoms. I am now on solifenacin. This has worked really well and the only symptoms I am aware of is a mildly dry mouth. Definitely worth going back to the Doctor.

Thank you for your reply. I too have a croaky throat and some soreness. I really felt better before I started on them. Not easy to contact our doctors. But will have a go. Did you go straight on to Solifenacin, or did you have a rest from the medication .

I felt very put off by the experience and took a long gap - several years. I don’t like being on medication and felt I wanted to try bladder training etc again. I have to say though that having found something which works for me, I regret struggling along all that time! I still don’t like being on medication, and perhaps will try reducing at some point but at the moment my quality of life has hugely improved.

It’s so good that you found something to work for you. My problem is a continuous pressure on my urethra. Before Oxybutynin I did not have pain there and no UTI. Now it is much worse, so am tempted to come off them. Just hoping I can get hold of my surgery. Thanks once again the experiences of others is so helpful.

just wanted to say that I have changed to Solifenacin. Only a few days in . Hoping this will be better. Hope this is not too Personal for here just wonder if you are on 5mg or 10mg. Only my doc has said I can increase it after 2 weeks, I just cannot deal with the side effects particularly constipation. Thankyou for any insight.

no, that’s fine. I am on 5mg. I have thought about increasing it as I still have symptoms, but as it is now so much better than it was I am staying with 5mg for now.

Thankyou, just wanted to know how 10mg would affect people. I hope this 5mg will give me some relief that I can live with.

Sorry that you have had to take Oxybutynin for so long. Have you been offered another of the meds. I had the dry mouth so bad it affected my throat and I could barely speak.. Hate being on these meds the side effects of all of them are awful. Not even completely convinced it is OAB. Still not been on them long we shall see.

Thanks for your reply. I am now on Solifenacin. Not much better as both have caused urethra pain which I didn’t have before. Don’t get to speak to Doctor till 8th Jan. Glad it works for you. Not convinced it is OAB, diagnosed over the phone.

Hi, my elderly Mum was prescribed Oxybutin to help control an over active bladder. When we took her to a Consultant, he took her off it, concerned about impact on memory. She is now on Hydroxychloroquine, which worked much better.
