New job - what should I do/ say.

Hi guys. So I’ve not posted on here for a while, I have overactive bladder but investigations have found that my bladder won’t acfually stretch for some unknown reason. My lasts treatment was 11 months ago, when I had Botox injections, but no improvement. Im 28 and have suffered with this issue all my life.

I’ve just started a new job in admin and it was all fine to start with. Then I was told I will be sitting in meetings to take notes (this wasn’t in the job description, which was quite detailed - if it was I wouldn’t have applied). The last week or so my bladder has been extremely irritated for most of the morning and I really can’t work out why, it’s been reasonably settled for a while (still weak but not overly irritated).

My issue is I’m now petrified of my job in case I have to go to a meeting and end up needing the toilet desperately and I’m not sure what to do about it, do I speak to my new manager and explain the situation or keep quiet. I did declare on my health check prior to starting that I need to use the toilet more frequently than most people due to a bladder condition but I don’t know if she’s even looked at that as it’s done by the hr department. I don’t want to draw attention to myself so early on but at the same tome I can see this becoming a real problem for me very quickly, as I suffer from anxiety because of my bladder issues.

Advice needed please!

Hi, congratulations on your new job. I would make an appointment to meet with your HR department and ask them if they have made your manager aware of your health. They should be able to make some small work adjustments for you. Then make an appointment to speak to your line manager, so they ate also aware of your health issues. Try not to stress as this can be making your bladder more irritable at the moment. Hope all goes well. Iv suffer with intersial cystitis for over 10 years and a few other health issues. Honesty is usually the best place to start, for yourself as well.
