chest pressure and med doseage

Hi, i,ve been dealing with At Fib since 2018 , been on bisoprolol 1.25 g since April of this year.Went to see gp because of strange feelings in chest and fluttering in heart area, i,ve know i had erratic heart beat as well. Gp has now said eractic beat is more noticeable so he has increased the meds up to 2.5 Bisoprolol, been on the waiting list to see cardiologist about 2 and a half months, i know its going to be a long time untill i get the appointment. The gp said because my heart beat is still to high 85 - 90 beats need to bring it down to the seventys , that,s why he,s up the doseage. The gp said that depending on what the cardiologists sayes they might suggest doing an abulation procedure, ( i think that was the word) on heart , just asking has any one had this and what occurs?

Do a search on "ablation". (I've never had one, but lots of people on here have.)

I've not had an ablation...however, I belong to an FB group called AF Support UK and loads of members on there have had it done. May be worth joining if you're on FB that is. A friend of mine had it done a year ago and it has pretty much sorted her A F out yet others I know of on the group, have had 2 or 3 and some have finally obtained relief whilst others have not...there's no way of really knowing if it will or won't work for you as we all are individuals...however, be guided by your cardiologist or better still see an electro physiologist and even more importantly your own gut instinct. Good luck 🙏

hi,

Bless you! I had continous atrial Flutter palpations fir the past year- it feels like AFib but its a diff cause and its specific to an area of damage causing the palpitations. It poss occurred related to my scar healing after I had OHS for aorta and artic valve replacement last year, and then several setbacks post surgery, but the Atrial Flutter seemed to really kick off continuously after I recovered from covid and pneumonia about 8 months post my surgery, and abiut this time last year - its a long story !!

Anyway- post surgery I was already on 1.25mg bisoprolol for occasional palps I was getting anyway. When it went on full continuous 140+bpm a year ago I was increased to 2.25mg bisoprolol (and also started on apixaban blood thinner), but the increase only reduced my hrate to about 90-100bpm. I saw my cardiologist at the start of the year. A combination of digoxin abd bisop 1.25mg got me to 60-80bpm, although the pslps from the flutter was still continuous 24/7.

I was well enough for a catheter ablation a month ago. So far it has stopped the atrisl flutter palpatations, but they say it will take 3-6 months to fully know if successful. Im on about 60-70bpm when well. The signs are good it is ok so far. I have stopped the digoxin and bisoprolol now, Im still on the apixaban until they are sure Im healed- so at least 6 months.

My understanding is the catheter ablation is also done for AFib, but AFib is more erratic in its cause so can be a bit harder to pin down and fix, but is also often successful, and it can be repeated. Basically I went in to hospital, and under heavy sedation they inserted a catheter in my femeral blood vessel, they had a screen to assess the sources of the electrical signal defects in the heart, and then inserted a laser to make scars in that area to block the signals and so the heart beat goes back to sinus rhythm. It was quite straightforward.
