Just had a telephone call from my GP to review my blood pressure as its always very low I was put on Bisoprolol 5mg after my heart attack but my BP started to drop so just over a year ago the dosage was dropped to 1.25mg but this hasn't changed my readings as they were still very low.
GP has told me to cease taking the Bisoprolol as from today as he said its was doing more harm than good hopefully this won't have any detrimental effects on my heart and stop the dizziness and lightheadedness I've been feeling for a long time as I was told by another GP at the surgery when I had a face to face appointment with him he didn't want to take me off of it as he said its life preserving so just taking Lansoprazole, Asprin and Ticagrelor in the morning and Ticagrelor and atorvastatin in the evening.

I am sorry to say the services are definitely going from bad to worse. How can you sort out a patients b.p over the phone. It's beyond me and a disgusting way to treat patients. I hope you keep well and no more dizziness especially when the previous doctor said he wanted to keep you on the medication. Brian
I suffered from low blood pressure and slow pulse rate. When tired after working hard, it would drop to 100 over 58... so Bisoprolol was always going to be a no no for me! When I was prescribed it, it knocked me out completely. GPs will have different opinions, but in this case, both are partly right. You need to discuss this with your cardiologist to see of there is another option. He may well prescribe lifestyle solutions. For instance I find that good sleeping habits and regular walks help keep my bp at a manageable level. These days it is usually about 115 over 70.
I’ve just reduced my medication because my BP was low and feel much better for it, what sort of readings are you getting?
I didn’t get on with even a very low dose of Bisoprolol but a 94 year old lady I help takes 10mg daily so we all react differently.
It’s confusing when doctors say contradicting things, I’ve experienced that myself but you have to use your own judgment, I was told by one doctor in A&E to stop taking my anticoagulant as I didn’t want to bleed to death did I? Then another doctor in the same place told me to keep taking the anticoagulant! I decided to stop taking it for a few days and then restarted it after talking to my GP who laughed when I told her what the doctors had both said.
Good luck with what you decide, it’s horrible feeling dizzy all the time.
can't add to your GP's opinions but if/when you stop taking the Bisoprolol you might want to wean yourself off it gradually - some people experience withdrawal symptoms and a gradual reduction helps to avoid this there have been previous posts on this and your pharmacist should be able to advise you
mmm, don't throw away any you still have yet! some people struggle and need to reduce gradually
I don't want to contradict your GP but you might find that pharmacists know a lot more about medication than the average GP - it is their specialist subject after all
I dont know if I am allergic to Bisop but it completely floored me. The last time I was given it by mistake One tablet and two hours later I was like a Zombie.
