hello everyone, I have stable angina since 2020, and atrial fibrillation was diagnosed October 2023. I’ve been taking Edoxaban for two months. At first, I was very pleased because I felt no side-effects. However, recently I find myself short of breath and slightly tight chest as soon as I walk anywhere. And I feel tired when doing so. Has anyone else had this experience with an anticoagulant?
Before this, for about a year, my main symptoms tallied more with Afib symptoms, not angina symptoms.
Many thanks,
Rockcake

Good evening, I also have a-fib, for 9 years and have had 2 ablations ( they said I will need a third) I started having those same symptoms back in April of 2023 and assumed it was my a-fib again. But it was not, after several negative tests, and still symptomatic my cardiologists diagnosed me with coronary microvascular dysfunction ( spasms) with symptoms like angina.
On several medications now but am still intermittently symptomatic with exertion. Was recently put on Eliquis for my a-fib (and because I just turned 65). The Eliquis doesn't seem to be causing any side effects. Nothing I'm taking has totally eliminated my symptoms.
Hi Danesx, thank you for your reply. I’ve read your bio and see that you’re on quite a few meds, and that you still have symptoms - hard for you to know what’s causing them. I do hope you continue to be ok on Eliquis.
It could be that I am experiencing more symptoms of angina and that it’s just a coincidence that it’s coincided with me starting Edoxaban recently, although the side effects of Edoxaban can be fatigue and shortness of breath - just to confuse things! I don’t take any other meds for Afib or Angina.
Yes, this happened to me, it crept up on me over a few weeks. Short of breath, muscle weakness, tired out after minimal movement. Stairs and hills became a dread as I had to keep stopping to rest. GP didn’t believe me. Eventually I moved to another anticoagulant with help of pharmacist and haematologist. I may well have to go back on warfarin.
Thank you for your reply Linnie, much appreciated. I went out today and felt the same weakness. Edoxaban side effects do include fatigue and SOB, so I’ll keep a close eye on it. I have a b/p monitor new and it also shows if one is in Afib . When I got home my b/p was good, and not in Afib. Yet exhausted,
Hope you get on well with your new anticoagulant, be interested to know which one it is.
Hi, at the moment I am not taking any anticoagulant. I do not have Afib, it was suspected during lockdown but eventually ruled out, but I may or may not have APS antiphospholipid syndrome, tests not clear. What I’m saying it was very obvious that these new DOAC’s caused me problems with tiredness and muscle weakness.
