T2diabetes remission

Hi

I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago with an HBA1c of 101, I am doing the fast 800 diet of 2 shakes and a 400 cal meal in the evening. What should I be aiming my blood glucose to be?

Currently my blood sugars are between 4.2 and 6.0 Mmols. I have also lost 9kgs (21 lbs).

. Also I have been prescribed Metformin slow release 500 mg morning and evening. And hopefully will come off that soon. I am due my next blood test mid November.

Thanks

I assume you are doing this diet under the supervision of your GP or some other qualified person. They would be the ones to ask. Good luck with it, anyway.

Hi I have a diabetic nurse who is aware but she wants to increase my Metformin and I want to look at dropping it. I have been advised to keep my BS between 6-8 which I’m thinking is too high???

I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, and put on a weight-watchers' course. This was 3 years ago, and I have been ok since. For many people, diet and exercise can reduce the dependence on drugs. More fruit and veg, and cut out sugars and other refined carbs seems to help.

These crash diets don't really work and are not sustainable in the long term.

All you need to do is cut out refined sugars and eat real food and you will reverse your h1bac score.

I took mine from 98 to 30 while taking Metformin in 2021 and this was achieved in 3 months. I lost 6 stone in weight and this was combined with excercise. I have kept my weight off.

The first 6 months I didn't eat a lot of fruit, I do now but it doesn't have a big impact on my score but I do a lot of walking and cycling.

Thanks and Wowsers down to 30 in three months is amazing, huge well done. I am aiming to initially lose 15 kg (33lbs) and bring my hbA1c down a bit through a low cal diet 🤞🏻

My HbA1C was 143! I think various things caused my T2D including covid. I went in a low carb high protein diet. I was already losing weight and this is how I still eat as best as I can. I’m on Empagliflozin and that’s all. I just haven’t got it into remission, I’d have to starve I think. There are various factors to my ‘Dire betes’.

It is a diet for life and that book 🙄

It makes it seem like a cure, it isn’t.

With rapid weight loss you may put it all back on I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago and adhere as best as I can to my low carb.

Ps there all manner of things that affect your blood glucose levels, stress, lack of water, sleep etc and ‘the Dawn phenomenon’ high reading in the mornings.

Look for the diabetes app, people are helpful

I recommend Michael Mosley book about reversing diabetes or watch his programmes on it. It really works. Good luck x

So glad you are reading it it really works. I did the diet out of his book where you eat only in a short period of time in the day then didn’t eat anything until the next morning as that suited me. I couldn’t not eat for a day of fasting. I’m 9 stone and eat plenty of veg and fruit with an occasional treat and my HbA1c came down to 38! It’s a must read for everyone. I was so upset when Michael Mosley died this year I love his programmes. Good luck with it and if you are struggling adapt it to suit you. It works spread the word lol

Hello, I have been Type 1 for around six decades. Also in that time I have been involved with a number of support groups. The figures I would suggest (please bear in mind I am not medically qualified are 4.4 to 6.2 before meals and no more than 10.0 (preferably 8.0) two hours after meals.

The diet you are on is not suitable long term and I would suggest a low carb Mediterranean style diet.

I have been on this diet. It is supervised by NHS dieticians and the shakes are only for the first few months as a 'kickstart' before you move onto a healthy eating plan. It helps change your eating habits and has been good for me to lose nearly 3 stone . I am having a hb1ac test next week to see if I have dropped my blood sugar levels.

Update: hb1ac is now normal at 39 so it's working for me. 🙂

thanks for replying you have given me hope and incentive to continue, and to have an HbA1c of 39 in 3 months…… that's amazing

Type 1 and type 2 are quite different conditions as far as I can see. Type 2 can be reversable for many people.
