Hello All, Am wondering if anyone has had experience with Arginine for microvascular angina? Was recently prescribed and can't really tell if working...seems sometimes yes and sometimes no. I am 78 and have had two myocardial infarctions in three years. Overall feel ok, but limited activity. Thank you all for reading and good luck to all.

Hello,

L-arginine is often recommended by Cardiologists in the US to help improve the function of the inner lining of the blood vessels, the endothelium.

Here in the UK it's not routinely recommended to treat microvascular or vasospastic angina.

It's classed as a food supplement so hasn't been through the same safety and efficiency tests as medications.

I have researched L-arginine and decided there was not enough large independent clinical studies to say it works.

Though I am aware that the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland clinics do recommend L- arginine

I am sorry to hear about your heart attacks.

Where you offered cardiac rehabilitation after these events?

There are a quite a few of us on the forum who live with microvascular and/ or vasospastic angina. Hopefully some of them will be along to share their experiences with you too.

Wonderful to hear from you Milkfairy! No, I was not offered cardiac rehabilitation except the recommendation to resume walking. Since the heart attacks, I have suffered through a couple of troublesome conditions. Peptic ulcers which they felt were a result of a combination of Plavix and low dosage aspirin. Needed blood transfusions and has taken a while for hemoglobin to return to normal. And then numerous ipmn's /sidebranch cysts were discovered on pancreas and liver. I am grateful to have dodged all these "bullets" plus receive absolutely first class care at Tucson's Banner Cancer Care. It is an oasis for the spirit and soul. So, I carry on. Thank you for the information...you are a source of comfort and trust. Stay well!

Hi, I have been taking it for 2yrs now, with no side effects. The Pharma meds I was previously on made me worse.

Do you feel L- arginine is helping to manage your symptoms?

Yes definitely I also take Nattokinase as a blood thinner... I was in with a heart attack last July the first I had been in for a few years and the consultant asked where I had been as I had not been near for a while. I told him what I was taking and he said it must be doing something.

The heart attack was down to stress as I had forgot my spray and was in a meeting arguing with our factor who as usual was trying to rob us.
