more about stopping aspirin temporarily

saw my cardiologist yesterday. He took me off bisoprolol — said my heart rate was too slow — and Ticagrelor. Have stopped both, with trepidation re the bisoprolol. He also said he was not keen on me stopping aspirin as he didn’t want my stents to clog up. I pointed out that the advice on this forum was that it took 7 days for aspirin to leave the system and I’m only asking for two days. He said he would write to the orthopaedic surgeon in question, but I feel frightened and in limbo. I hope none of you ever suffer from sciatica.

Hi I suffer from sciatica and my Gp prescribed co-codomal for it. When it gets bad I do some exercises my Gp downloaded for me to do and it does help it. They are mainly stretching exercises. When I first got it I ended up not being able to walk for a while, the pain was horrendous, I don’t even want to relive it, even an injection at a&e didn’t stop it. but the exercises removed it so now when I feel it starting up I do the exercises and that takes it away. It’s a terrible pain, and I know some people just can’t get rid of it. All the best

Hello Deejay62 I hope you don’t mind me asking but as I’m suffering with a slipped disc and sciatica I’m just enquiring where the exercises are that your GP sent to you as I’m keen to get things resolved through exercises but my physio simple sent me 4 to do from a physio tool website. I’m awaiting results from an mri but I’ve never had sciatica for such a long time, it normally resolves itself or with a bit of physio within 3 months. I’m worried I’ve got some kind of permanent nerve damage. I know this is a heart forum and I did have a HA last year and on all the normal meds but this sciatica is more painful than the HA so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much ❤️🧚🏼‍♀️

It’s called Rehabilitation of the injured back. She downloaded and printed it out and gave it to me this was years ago. I don’t know if you can get it online. Maybe ask your Gp if they have it. It has diagrams and it explains how to do the exercises. When she gave it to me I thought ok. She printed it out and said do these exercises, follow the instructions carefully then she sent me packing😀It took me a couple of days to start doing them then the pain got worse. When I started doing them the next day I felt slightly better until after a while it went. I don’t know if it’s a Gp kept exercise plan. There is early, intermediate early and intermediate late. It also shows how to carry stuff.

Thanks. I have stretching exercises too. They help while I’m doing them. If you can bear to read this whole conversation, there are various suggestions, including hydrotherapy. Funnily, my sciatica disappeared when I had that which cannot be named and then crept back. It’s very painful but walking makes it better. Standing is excruciating. Good luck!

I keep hearing about hydrotherapy but as I have a pacemaker defibrillator I don’t know if I can use that. My sciatica hasn’t been that bad. When we were trapped I did some early morning walks with my 90 yr old neighbour and it started to get quite painful. Bless her she walks slower than me and I found that made it worse so I did the exercises. Continuous walking does make it better.

Hello Harefieldfan I’m sorry to hear about the medication issues but just wanted to go on to ask the question why you are seeing an orthopaedic surgeon? I’m presuming it’s to do with your sciatica. I’m asking because I’ve had a slipped disc and sciatica for 4 months now. The nerve pain in my leg is horrendous. I’m unable to walk very far at all and I have continuous pain 24/7. I’ve had an MRI and awaiting the results but have been prescribed Gabapentin and codeine. But still in pain. I worry that I’ll have permanent nerve damage as I’ve suffered with sciatica before but it heals normally within 3 months. This time I’m unable to walk far, my only exercise are 4 exercises from a video the physio sent to me. They say they don’t do hands on treatment for this anymore - I’ve always had hands on before to loosen the tightness around the leg muscles. So just interested to know your treatment but sounds like the heart meds have been reduced because of future back treatment is that right? I hope you manage to get everything resolved as quickly as possible. Good luck ❤️🧚🏼‍♀️

Hi Milkfairy. I’ve had spinal stenosis for years, which is what initiated my visit. I said I was prepared to have surgery but he said no, as I’m completely mobile. Fine with me This has now morphed into horrible long- term sciatica, both sides. I had a pre-injection assessment and then the question of blood thinners came up. And is still going on. I hope you get some relief!

Hi thank you for your reply. Ouch that all sounds very painful, you’re really going through it aren’t you. Thing is the back is connected to everything so everytime you move - it just hurts. Well I hope you all come to the right decision for you and you get some help with the sciatica. I can really sympathise. Good luck with whatever treatment you end up going with. Keep us posted ❤️🧚🏼‍♀️

Try an osteopath who doesn't do violent bone crunching. Mine released my sciatica twice.

Thank you Qualipop, I’ll look into that once I get my MRI results back. Look after yourself ❤️🧚🏼‍♀️

I'm on the enteric coated aspirin because the s oluble one played havoc with my stomach but I now supposedly have a p eptic ulcer even though the coated version is supposed to bypass your stomach. I would love to stop aspirin for a couple of weeks to let it heal but after a heart attack and stents I just don't dare. Like you i wish I could get some straight answers. When I had sciatica twice, my osteopath was able to release it without any bone crunching, just by releasing the muscles around it.
