Afternoon, has anyone done a cruise since open heart surgery? and what insurer did you use? I am at the start of getting some quotes for a 9 day Mediterranean cruise . Thanks for any input.

Best wishes Pauline.

Hi Pauline I hope you are keeping well, I use insurancewith.com, I haven't been on a cruise since my surgery but I know they definitely do cruise cover. It sounds wonderful, I hope you get your insurance organised and have an amazing holiday. Chary x

morning Chary

Thanks for the reply, this started with my brother in the States one of his sons and his wife plus my son Paul and his wife, so 6 of us, now it’s 16 members of the family, mostly flying in from the States 😂 think it’s going to be quite a few days. We are starting from Barcelona then Cannes, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Sardinia, Ibiza, Majorca and then finally back to Barcelona. Hope you are doing well after your recent surgery. Have my yearly echo next week so fingers crossed 🤞 my eldest granddaughter is here from Australia, at the moment she is in Europe, back with me next week for a few days before she goes back home.

You take good care

You must be so excited to see the family from over the pond, I have been on a couple of cruises with mum but to cold countries only, Norway and Iceland which I loved. It definitely is going to be hectic for you. I am off on Sunday to Carahuela between Torremolinos and Benalmadena it will be my fourth heart versary when we are there (26th) always a day of thought for the donor family but I am sure they would be glad to know that everything thing is still going well, my blood pressure was up so I am back to the Jubilee when I get home. I am still waiting on my follow up appointment for the surgery they said 3 to 4 months which has long passed and the secretary won't reply to my calls, I don't quite know what else to do to chase it up, on the other hand I am sure if it was urgent they would have had me in. Take care and let me know how the echo goes chary x

Have a wonderful holiday, sorry your blood pressure is not playing the game 😩 give my best to the Jubilee! My blood pressure is on the low side so have to watch going round corners!

I am sure you would be sent for if there was a problem. All you can do is keep ringing the secretary just to nudge them, I should have had my echo last month but 2 days before appointment had a letter cancelling it. Though the new appointment was for just 4 weeks later, hopefully I won’t get a letter cancelling this one🤞

🤞🤞I hope so, the last time I was at the Jubilee my consultant wasn't sure if it was up because I was still recovering from the op so he said if it is still high when I go this time he will have to prescribe meds, I hope it's ok I don't like taking it myself in case I panic over nothing. Char x

Maybe grit your teeth and do your blood pressure 😩 just sit quietly for 5 minutes before you do it. Sit up straight feet flat on the floor. I do mine twice a week, or maybe more often if I can tell it’s on the low side. I am on a hiding to nothing if it drops I have to drink more fluid but I am on high diacritics so then it’s more trips to the bathroom 😂😂

You can't win 😅I think because it used to be so low I now think its high when it's normal for me so I just do it when I'm not feeling so good, my appointment is on August 6th not too long now, I hope I don't need more meds. Char x

Hi PaulineGlad to hear from you. I was on a cruise at the beginning of June and used a company called Holiday Extras - found them quite reasonable. Hope you have a lovely time - where are you heading?

Thank you so much for the information, I am going to the Mediterranean for 9 days. Stated with 6 of us ( family) now that’s turned into 16! Mostly they are coming from the States 😂 we are travelling with NCL, starting from Barcelona. So fingers crossed everyone gets there with no delays 😂

Best wishes Pauline x

I have just taken out cruise insurance 12 months cover with Admiral. Reputable company and much lower quote than others

I had nstemi in March. We were insured with Avanti I called to inform them and I had to pay another £300 onto of annual price. So the total annual price was £595 for 2 adults and 2 children. I am 62. Hubby 66. If that helps. Annual is sometime cheaper than 2 weeks cover. X

I have done several cruises since my ohs. I opened a Nationwide Flex Plus bank account which comes with worldwide travel insurance among other benefits. You need to go through the health screening but it worked out the best value for me. Enjoy your cruise.

Hello Pauline, try Staysure.

I am cruising next month and used Coverforyou. My previous travel insurer Coverwise wanted to bump premiums up stupidly after my ohs, so I had to shop around.

Getting quotes before a procedure makes things insanely expensive as any pending or undiagnosed condition makes you a higher risk. Best to wait til a procedure ( like icd implant in my case) as then it's a known factor and prices are less ridiculous.

How exciting. 8 months after surgery I cruised from America and used Staysure. Last year I got cover through my bank account as it was longer after surgery so they accepted me. Have an amazing time

Hi Pauline, we went on a cruise in June & used Staysure & are going again in November . We found them best for age & our medical conditions, like you I’ve had open heart surgery & I’m the same age as you, my husband has stents & is over 80 so we didn’t expect it to be cheap & it wasn’t but it was worth it to us. Make sure you have cruse cover in the policy.

Hi I had triple bypass and also have non Hodgkin Lymphoma. I have been on 4 cruises since my surgery and not had any problems with insurance. Yes it’s more expensive but my husband also has serious health conditions so obviously this puts the premium up. We used Staysure and I think Avanti. Good luck 🍀🍀have a lovely holiday ( we certainly need them) 😊🌞🛳 Xx.

Yes ..on the insurance form ..the reply you give May open up more questions, these impact. I had one that asked about unplanned hospital visits..I have several conditions and I went to hospital with AF where they found HF as well.

I put AF down asked if I’d unplanned hospital…yes

I put HF down unplanned hospital ..yes so two visits no insurance

NO one visit for AF where they discovered HF… so only one visit so happy to insure

Okay got it. I had my OH surgery 8 years ago. Having my yearly echo next week, ( check the pressure my valve is pushing out) I also had bypass surgery as well as a new valve and obviously I will inform the insurance companies about this.

Thanks again Pauline.

My partner has had OHS for a replacement Aortic Valve. We have been on a number of cruises and use Staysure. Not the cheapest but been with them for years. I think alot will depend on if you've had a heart attack or not.
