Runny nose - is it a side effect of meds?

Odd question but does anyone know if any of the standard meds prescribed after cardiac arrest can give you a constantly runny nose? Am on ticagrelor, aspirin, atorvastatin, ramipril, ezetimibe, bisoprolol and Lansoprazole.

I would say bisoprolol is the culprit, it's well known for causing a runny nose unfortunately

Atorvastatin can cause a runny nose and does with me! See NHS website for common side effects of Atorvastatin. Of course, it may be another medicine causing your runny nose.

If you believe you have unpleasant side effects from taking any medication you should discuss with your GP or a pharmacist. A change in medication might be possible.

The problem is identifying which of the many medications is causing the problem.

Which is why I have suggested you talk to a qualified health professional!!

They do usually want you to have some idea about when it started, how it affects you etc, so you probably have to do some thinking before consulting them. The problems is that most common side effects appear in almost every accompanying leaflet. Just suggesting some thought before talking to a professional.

I had it with bisoprolol

it’s almost certainly the bisoprolol. I had the same problem. My niece has the same problem. Dreadful stuff.

I take a few of the same meds as you, including Bisoporol. I get an Overactive runny nose when out on my daily walk, I put it down to previously having covid, never thought about the meds ....

Ah well it could be worse 🤪🤧

Yes the joys of bisoprolol. Just clear fluid with a consistency more like tears. In some situations my nose runs like a tap. 😕

Yes on bisoprolol too and the increase in tissue buying definitely increased

Bisoprolol is causing it for me too. I always have to carry around loads of tissues.

This sounds familiar, I also got sneezing episodes! Yes, this seems to be the bodies reaction to the meds, which comes and goes, eventually eases of with time.

Bisoprolol did that to me too!

I was put on 1.25 Bisoprol in Oct 23 for ectopic heartbeats. My nose was very runny and it’s only in the last few weeks it seems to be getting better. So maybe it’s a side effect which takes a while to settle down.

I got runny nose at the start, on very similar meds to you it did settle but TALK to your doc

The culprit is Bisoprolol I’m on 1.25 for HA and im constantly wiping my snout !

I've been on bisoprolol for years (1.25) and have had a runny nose all that time. It also gives me a very dry mouth at night which is uncomfortable. Neither cardiologist or gp will allows me to change it and I really need it to help my heart failure. Bisoprolol also causes my hands and feet to be v cold and my Raynaud's to be much worse. Its a two edged sword. Best wishes.

I have recently had my bisoprolol doubled to 5mgI have a runny nose, also very dry mouth at night. I have also become very constipated. Any one else have that.

Sounds like I’m lucky only to have the one side effect…

Yep Bisoprolol is the culprit I’d guess. This drug is probably one of the most complained about on this forum. Proper nuisance but hey it does the trick, so hang on in there and you’ll get used to it. Sue 🙏

thanks everyone! Looks like bisoprolol is definitely the culprit - I may just have to get used to it, but will try to discuss with the gp when I next get the chance (although they’ve been very resistant to any tweaks of my meds thus far). At least I know I’m not the only one who can’t leave home without sponsorship from Kleenex…
