Since 1999 I have taken Ramipril and Amlodopine for hypertension. I was also advised to take a daily low does aspirin. Since I started on these drugs I have developed tinnitus...it's irritating but tolerated...I have no choice! It would life changing for me to get rid of it. My question to the community.....has anyone suffered from tinnitus, had it ascribed to one of these drugs and subsequently eliminated it by changing drugs?

Tinnitus as a side effect.
I’m a member of the Health Unlocked forum dealing with tinnitus - you might like to head over there.
In the meantime, I can tell you that what affects some people doesn’t affect others (as far as T is concerned) and vice versa. In my view your best bet is to talk this over with the pharmacist employed by your doctor’s group of surgeries.
My other suggestion is the website of Tinnitus UK, the specialist charity. Lots of info there on how to cope.
And it may not be these drugs causing your tinnitus. The fact that you are taking them suggest a cardiovascular event, so it could have been that or it might have been something else entirely. The more you concentrate on “why”, the more attention you are giving to Mr T and the more attention he gets the happier he is!
I have this problem too. Tinnitus, I was told by nurse is as a result of noisy activity done during youthful times, thefore nothing can be done about it.
I don’t believe your nurse..sorry. I saw a leading cardiologist recently and asked about antihypertensive drugs and the possibility that they could cause tinnitus. He looked at the “bible” of drugs and told me that it’s a fairly common Ramipril side effect. I just wanted to know if anyone had stopped Ramipril and seen improvement in T.
My T started at the age of 62 years, well after the age when I was exposed to loud noises.
According to some sources calcium channel blockers, like Amlodopine can cause T in between 1 in 50 and 1 in 1000 people. I guess it's very difficult to carry out research that gives accurate assessments of various side effects and that's why I posed my initial question to try and get some real life feedback.
