Bisoprolol side effect

hamstervi profile image

I have started to take Bisoprol for 2 weeks 2.5mg daily. I am experiencing several side effects, headaches, abdominal pain and bloating, nausea and cold feeling in limbs. Anyone has the same experience as me? I take pain killer every day to deal with my bad headache. When the side effects will finally subside?

Hello :-)

I am on Bisoprolol and suffer with side effects like you describe but I take other medications and so therefore never sure which is causing these side effects which do make you miserable

I have been on them a few years now and it has not got any better for me but everyone insists that the benefits outweigh the negatives for my own personal heart conditions so I just carry on taking them and all the others I am prescribed to

Hopefully though yours will settle down which it does for so many I would say give it at least 4 weeks and if there are no improvements you need to talk to your Doctor as they may be happy to try you on something else

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Speak to your GP and see if you can take 1.25mg for a while to see if you can adjust to it or maybe split the dose am/pm. The side effects are pretty grim at first, I can only tolerate 1.25mg any more causes problems worse than my Afib but after several months I do not have any noticeable side effects.

I was on bisoprolol 2.5mg once a day but it really affected my hands and feet, there are different tablets as was told by my cardiologist,I'm lucky in that don't now have AF but large hole in heart

I started on 3.75mg Bisoprolol after my heart attack, but it caused a low heart rate and I had awful feelings of impending doom... very scary to say the least. I asked my GP to reduce my prescription to 2.5mg, but that was still too much. I eventually got it reduced to 1.25mg and I can cope with that, but even at that dose I still get a low pulse rate and it makes my Raynauds worse. I now take Nifedipine to help with the Raynauds.

As has been suggested, it might be worth trying 1.25mg.

Just to add… Bisoprolol is the worst medicine to come off of. Please research it before you commit to taking it.

hi, are you taking it in the morning? I moved it to the evening and the same symptoms eased after months of trouble with the effects. best of luck

yes, I take it in the morning. Thanks for your advice. I may try to take it at night. Just scared it will affect my sleep quality. Does it affect your sleep quality?

hmm, hard to say as I'm not a great sleeper but I don't feel any of the usual symptoms when awake in the wee hours

hi Hamstervi, I’d personally be more about the pain killers your taking and what your eating and drinking.

Not to say that the bisoprolol arnt causing you problems but I’d eliminate other factors first.

I’m scared not to take them as the repercussions are worse.

I take 20mg per day two 10mg one in morning and the other around 5.30pm.

I’ve noticed that when I’ve tried having a few cans or lager I can’t get away with it, if I’ve been tempted by a cig it’s the same.

My heart rate drops low when trying to sleep this scares me more than anything.

Drink plenty of water and cut as much sugar and bad foods out of your diet as possible.

Eat more quality protein as in chicken breast with salad and grass fed beef to fill yourself up on.

Look at food labels and cut out sunflower oil, corn startch, processed foods, crisps chocolate and bread all junk and then see how you feel.

Eat salad and whole foods and go for walks daily. This is what will help.

I’m In and out of hospital and this is something I battle daily it’s not nice it’s hard to cope with but it’s ongoing.

Some people have a heart attack and within months they feel ok again but for others this isn’t the case.

Wish you well Simon.

When I was started on Bosoprolol, I was instructed to take lowest dose, 1.25mg/nightime. This was to miss any side effects, if I were to take it in the morning. So for me no serious headaches/nausea. Into 3 months and I do have very rare headaches.

Hi, yes I had all those side effects even at low dose but I am super- sensitive. There are alternatives you can ask for if even 1.25 is problemmatic. Everyone is different, my hubby takes it and has no side effects whatsoever!

hi there. I had to stop taking it. However, I observed a message by someone with a similar problem saying that person took his meds at night and he did t notice the side effects. Likely he only took one lot. I will be asking whether i really should be taking it when next see specialist and try that. All the best.

I took 5 mg for five or six weeks and had headaches, dizziness and just all together felt pretty shit. I told them and they cut it to 2.5 and straight away I was ok,

I do think Bisoproplol gets a bad press , it is a lifesaver and before any Internet forums , I was on 15 msg not 1.5 my only advise was not to spring out of bed the minute I had them . I still take 10 mgs daily and have just started on Fargixa.

My advice would be to accept all meds have an effect on the body but if they are saving your heart etc give them an opportunity to settle down and do their job.

I should start an I LOVE BISO group.
