hi all. So I have been taking dapa along with others for 5 months now to treat cardiomyopathy and heart failure. So far they have all worked wonders for me with no side effects until a couple of days ago. Iv now been struck with Dapas number 1 side effect, thrush!!! My question is can I even use canasten as a heart patient?

Dear You

A common side effect I am afraid , Lucky one I have not suffered with but certainly have been warned about.

Why don't you give your pharmacist a ring? they will have a list of your medication and will be able to tell you if its safe or not.

Hope it clears up soon for you

the symptoms started on Friday while I was at work, by the time I finished the chemist was closed so I went onto Amazon and ordered some prime. It arrived yesterday after the chemist was closed and only after it arrived did I think to myself can I even use this? So now I have the most uncomfortable feeling, the cream that is the cure but unsure whether it’s actually safe for me to use! I know there’s a lot of stuff I can’t use because of medication!😩

Why not phone nhs111 and ask them, they'll be able to advise

Hi myhf, sorry to hear how uncomfortable you're feeling.

Is there an information leaflet with the cream? It will tell you if there are any 'do not use if you take ...' and may also have a section for 'speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking ...' each with a list of medication types (if there are any).

If yours didn't come with a leaflet, the boots website sells canesten products, and each product page contains a link to the patient information leaflet.

I hope you're feeling more comfortable soon.

Hi,

The PIL says to consult your doctor if your have heart issues, are taking anticoagulants or NSAIDs.

If you give 111 a call they'll direct you to an out of hours pharmacist to discuss it.

that is why I am concerned! I don’t actually take anticoagulants anymore or nsaids but usually when I goto the chemist for something I can’t take it because of my other meds. It seems pretty trivial to be calling 111, I will just call my local pharmacy when it’s open again I think. I was just hopeful someone on here may of had experience with it.

Hi there. I’m on dapa also but I’ve not experienced thrush as yet I think you should call 111 if it’s too itchy to wait. That’s what they’re there for not just for serious emergencies.

Not what you're looking for?
