Itching side effect to heart meds?

Good morning all,

I take Apixaban, Atorvastatin, Bisoprol, Ramipril and Spironolactone.

The itching on my back is driving me mad, I've put up with it for a while but it's got worse recently. I didn't get this until i'd been taking the meds for some time but assume it must be a side effect of one or more of them. Also I can feel some rough areas on my back.

Does any one have a similar experience or know which of the above drugs could be causing this?

It would help to have an idea before I make an appointment with my GP. I've been discharged from the hospital cardiologist with no follow up and don't have a heart nurse.

Your input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, I think Apixaban can cause itching but if you check the leaflet in the packet you’ll find the side effects listed. Good luck in getting it sorted.

I seem to remember that both Bisoprolol and Atorvastatin can cause itchiness, As Shar28 says, you should read the leaflets.

Interesting comment, hadn't made a connection to meds for itchiness!

I take warfarin, losartan and bisoprolol (been on them for 7 years), I have a really itchy back, probably for the last 6-8 months or so, til you made this comment I hadn't really thought about it x

Hi, if you read the side effects on most meds you will find many cause itching. The only one that you take that I have is spironolactone and itch on my back a lot. But other meds I have also say itching is a side effect! Best wishes

Hi Richos, the NHS website does state that Apixaban can cause allergic reactions. Itches are always allergic reactions, albeit mild ones.

I had a terrible back redness and itch but it was caused by a diabetes drug. I went to a dermatologist and changed soaps detergents, etc. No change. Discontinued the drug. Three days later problem completely gone.
