Cholesterol prevention Lequio Inqlisiran offered by GP

Few weeks ago, after my last blood test, I have received a letter from my GP surgery that my cholesterol level was slightly raised (I have diabetes type 2, which so far has been successfully controlled for years, by healthy diet).

I have Atrial Fibrilation and pacemaker fitted, and therefore I know that there is a higher risk of stroke, so I had tried statins, but found that bad s/e were making symptoms of my Fibromyalgia much worse and I stopped it.

So, naturally I was interested when I was offered this new medicine, (an injection of Lequio - Inclisiran). which promises 50% decrease of "bad" cholesterol but has NO side effects, apart from initial pain of injection.

After some basic internet checks about it, I was quite encouraged and decided to accept the offer of the Lequio injection. The good news is, that despite warning in the letter, that the injection might be quite painful and that there might be soreness on the site, afterwards, I did not feel any pain whatsoever so I worried about it, needlessly.

After this first injection there is a 3 month blood check and another injection, but after that it will be only twice yearly injection from then on.

I wonder, if anyone here has had this treatment and if it was helpful.

Hi. I am currently being seen by the Lipid clinic and have very high Lipoprotein A which makes cholesterol sticky and have had an NSTEMI and one stent and then 4 stents last year due to further blocked arteries. This drug has been mentioned as an option and so I hope to start it soon. I am just waiting for the results of another genetic screening blood test.

Glad to hear that it has not been too painful and that it has been prescribed for you. Desperate for some treatment as it is likely that next time stents may not be an option. 😀

Hi, Fern Cottage, I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through. From what I was told Inclisiran deals with cholesterol "at the source", stopping it being produced in the first place , so hopefully it will be of great help to you and that you will get go ahead to take it as soon, as possible

Hi,

Yes I had my first injection on the 13th May and got my next one booked for 13th August.

I have really struggled with statins since my HA in 2011 so haven't really taken them.

I'm up to 8 stents now so will see if this makes a difference 🤞

Hi, Lhasaboy,

Thank you for responding.

Did you have any pain, or any other reaction from your injection?

Hi Arnika,

After the nurse had given me the injection I had a lump and it stung quite a lot which lasted 30 minutes or so. The lump went down slowly as the stuff dissipated into my body. It was a bit tender for a few days and then all ok.

Not noticed anything else.

Were you ok with it.

Hi. Lhasaboy

Yes, I was ok. I was prepared in advance that it might hurt quite a lot, but neither injection itself, nor the site of it hurt at all. No mark either. I must say this surprised me (in a nice way) so I was curious how it affected other people. Thank you for responding Lhasaboy.
