I have just been diagnosed with heart failure. I already am treated for a fib (bisoprolol and warfarin) but I have taken (for years) one 10mg amitriptyline at night and two 8/500 co-codamol in the middle of the night. Is it ok to continue like this because they really do the trick? Many thanks

this ought to be discussed between you and either your doctor, or the pharmacist attached to your doc’s surgery, or failing that your dispensing pharmacist, in my opinion.
I think I'd ring / call into the pharmacy and discuss the meds issue and try and get a gp appointment/ hospital follow up to discuss treatment for heart failure. It's a lit to take in so have questions at the ready.
Wishing you well.
I was prescribed amytryptaline for pain but it says on the leaflet do not take if you have a heart condition I mentioned this to my GP who then changed it for something else.
If you’ve been diagnosed with heart failure it will depend on your heart function.
A heart function under 50% is said to be heart failure. When you do see someone about your diagnoses ask them what your Ejection Fraction (EF) is so then you will know how your heart is working.
I have severe left ventricular impairment and my heart function is EF 23%. More than 20 yrs ago I was diagnosed and my EF was 43%, 5 years it went to 10% but with heart failure medication it climbed back up to 23%. I have dilated cardiomyopathy which is progressive. Don’t let the word heart failure make you feel ill.
I take co-codomal and have done for years for arthritis. I take the normal one and exercise to keep the pain down. Sometimes it’s hard though.
Speak to your pharmacist and let them know what meds you’re taking and if they will affect you.
I also have Afib but I don’t feel it. I did take warfarin but recently it got changed to edoxaban by my Gp pharmacist because it began to affect my kidney function.
One of the very best remedies for heart failure that's not well known is Ouabain (also known as Strophanthin seed extract.... Here's some more I've posted to others about it-There was an old heart remedy, called Ouabain from the strophanthin seed, which was buried years ago by Big Pharma because it went out of patent, and they couldn't make money on it. Today it is still used in Germany by many doctors for angina, heart failure, and some types of arrythmias...Doctors basically focus on the 4 main arteries connecting to the heart, but Ouabain deals with the hundreds of micro vessels that are also attached to the heart which can act as a natural bypass when they are functioning properly, Ouabain clears these vessels of lactic acid, which are bad for the heart, and replaces them with pyruvate which is like insulin for the heart. It could possibly help your condition. Here's some more info- faim.org/ouabain-natures-pe...
