CRT-D procedure & taking tablets?

Hi, I’m booked in for a CRT-D procedure at 3:30pm tomorrow and I’ve had no pre op instructions so I’m going to go to the hospital early in the morning to ask a nurse on that department as I have no contact.

Has anyone from experience had a device the same or similar and had to stop taking any of their tablets the day before or on the morning incase of bleeding such as aspirin or Entresto for example because when I had a colonoscopy a few months ago the nurse told me not to take these the night before? I will still go and ask the nurse in the morning but if you could let me know how it was for any of you it would be helpful as I don’t want to take them then get there and they cancel after I’ve built myself up to having it done. Thank you in advance. Joy

I had my device fitted yesterday and took all medication as normal. Good luck.

Hi I didn't have to stop any meds but they should have given you anti bacterial body and hair wash to use for several days before. Otherwise there's a chance if infection.

Contacted secretary yesterday (email) and she said she’d contacted consultant and he just replied ‘sorted’ but except for my last consultation with him on 25 July nothing was mentioned about pre op procedures. I told her I hadn’t had a pre op nurse ring me or anything so I’ve contacted the heart and lung lab this morning and they are getting her to contact me. Nothing about special showering at all. My op is at 4pm today. Thank you god your reply. X

Maybe they've changed the rules. I had mine early 2021 and they mad a lot of fuss about antibacterial wash. Good luck.

I had my ICD in 2018. No special hygiene beforehand.

Did you have the anti bacterial shower stuff as I haven’t been told about that either just to turn up at 3:30 and procedure at 4pm. I will shower of course but haven’t got the special stuff. Might ring chemist to see what they’ve got or my gp. X

No nothing like that. Just normal shower and hair wash before you go in. Try not to worry, I didn't do anything apart from the fasting xx

I wouldn’t worry about that. I didn’t have any before my procedure in 2018. They’d have told you if they wanted you to do anything special xx

I had a CRD-T fitted about a year ago. Simple procedure under sedation and local. I have had no complications and have been much better since it was fitted. I kept my normal regime of pills without interruption and that included asprin and entresto. Best wishes

Hi so up to date now my pumping heart rate has gone from EF35 to EF45 and I feel so much better. Had a few set backs along the way since I had it fitted like in hospital with myopericarditis but I now feel so much better. I have low blood pressure that makes me dizzy so still can’t do as much as I’d like because of it but with regards to the device everything is great and I’m so thankful to have it. Hope you are ok. Joy x

I had an ICD fitted as an in-patient and the consultant only paused my Dabigatran blood thinner for 24hrs.

yes just got back home. I can breathe properly now. With my heart not pumping oxygenated blood properly before I’ve really noticed the difference straight away. The wound where the CRT-D is fitted is really swollen and uncomfortable but when that settles I’m sure I’m going to feel great. Got antibiotics to take as a precaution. Thank you for asking. Hope you are ok x

Hi. Yes thanks. Glad to hear that you are feeling the difference. It will take a while for the uncomfortable feeling to stop because there’s a lot of muscle to knit together but it will improve. Mine gets achy sometimes if I over stretch (hoovering! 😂). Take it easy 😊 X
