Tablets, Tablets Everywhere

I am getting to the point I need am app to remind me which tablets to take and when. So far I have taken five tablets before breakfast and six after. However still to go are one more Lisinopril (Ace), two more Gabapentin (useless painkiller for phantom pain) and three more Flucloxacillin (for my leg)! That's 17 a day. I am surprised I don't rattle when my wheelchair goes over a bump... 😁

Hello :-)

I can relate not to as many but enough and at different times of the day before food after food I always say this is a full time job on its own !

I take Gabapentin to all they seem to have done for me is put me weight on I am hoping I can come of them when I get some more steroid injections done the last ones I had did not work

If you hear a rattle at least you know what it is :-)

Have a lovely weekend :-) x

Gabapentin does nothing for me so after many years I weaned myself off it.

Gabapentin did nothing for me fir my burning neuropathy. It just gave me very vivid dreams and Lyrica was the same. It also gave me the shakes.

I’m taking gabapentin too for nerve pain. I still get the pain, but when I weaned myself down from 3 a day to 2 it seems like the pain is the same.

Hello :-)

I take it for pain I have in my shoulder I had steroid injections started to wean myself of the injections did not work and the pain was that much I was in agony again so I had to up them again

I am down to have more steroid injections which I hope next time will work as I would love to come of them

If the pain was still the same on 2 as 3 I think I would just take 2 then myself they are quite addictive and that worries me to I know they said if the injections work I would have to wean of them

Let's hope we can both get our pain under control :-) x

I’m taking it for dislocated damaged shoulder after a fall. I went away, thought I ordered enough for the weeks away then discovered I ordered all the others but them. I had 3 left. I called nhs direct who just arranged 2 for the weekend. I made the decision to wean myself to 2 a day because of not knowing when I would get them on Monday. I was sweating and fly awful. My mum didn’t help. She was telling me my moods changed I’m addicted to them😄I had to keep my cool and go to bed. I knew she was talking the truth.

On the Monday I telephoned my surgery and they arranged for it to go to my pharmacy. I telephoned my pharmacy who asked me what the nearest pharmacy was called, he then gave me a code and I was able to collect it. Because it’s a controlled drug I had to take ID.

My pharmacist told me in future I should contact them direct and they will text me the code so I can collect from my chosen pharmacy. But I think that’s only if you’re in England.

BeKind28- in reply toDeejay62

That was quite a performance you went through I would imagine you will make sure you have ordered them in future but so easily done

My Husband fetches all my repeats the chemist knows us and he has never once been asked for ID and we are in the UK

I do believe they are addictive though as well as I know they have put me weight on to

Glad you managed to keep your cool :-) x

Deejay62 profile image
Deejay62 in reply toBeKind28-

It was because that chemist didn’t know me. But yes I triple check now.

BeKind28- profile image
BeKind28- in reply toDeejay62

Right then that is understandable they would ask for ID

It is so easy though to make this mistake but sometimes especially at weekends harder to try and get something done but you got there :-) x

Yes I got there. All the best.

hi Michael I’m on a similar number but have mine put in dosette boxes to help me remember. I’m 52 but I’ve had a stroke which affected my memory a little. If you have more than 4 nhs prescription meds to take they should do dosette boxes for you although some chemists no longer do them. Before I got them I was forgetting to take my meds regularly. They’ve been a godsend really. Xx

Hi Michael

Just to let you know what I do - I use an app called "Medisafe" from the app store and it rattles my phone whenever I should take some tablets. It also reminds when refills are due so I can get a prescription and allows you to make notes on side effects etc.

I also use a traditional daily/weekly pill box (amazon) - belt & braces in case I still ignore my phone 😂

I hope this is the sort of thing you've referring too, I quite like the one I mention, but there are quite a few to try online.

All the best 🙏🏽

Yes I use the same but it keeps losing its ringtone for reminders.I also use one called Tom but having to send my phone back for repairs has been a nightmare .It lost me so many apps & saved info.I am still getting my old up to date 4 days later.

Oh goodness Michael, that's a lot of pills you take! Have you ever asked your pharmacist if there are any of them that you shouldn't take at the same time?

When I was discharged from hospital I was on up to 25 tablets a day, now down to 14. I use a dosette box making up the doses 7 days in advance. Once in the routine it has been easy to keep track. I'm 7 weeks post discharge and would have struggled to cope without the dosette.

An Apple Watch will remind you when to take your tablets. I have my reminder set to tell which tablets I have to take and it reminds me at three set different times.

I swore I would never be that old lady who was on first name terms with the pharmacist....but here I am. I am now that old lady who carries her meds home in a carrier bag! Not as many as you Michael, but more than enough for my vanity to feel dented. But, I am alive and kicking so they are doing their job. I've got a pretty good routine going and can 'juggle' when I need to ie when to take/how much to take Furosemide so that I can be near a loo and so on. But I know what you mean, technology might be useful. I'll explore the 'Medisafe' app - thank you Highfives.

Hi Micheal thats a lot of tablets no wonder you expect to rattle at bumps 😁.

Bill boxes as mentioned by other members are great to remember medications.

I hope the number reduce over time & you get well soon 🤞🏼

ha ha a fellow rattler, I take 5 at 6am, 8 at 8am, 2 at 12, 5 around 6 and 3 at 9. I have alarms set on my fit bit, also so many pill boxes, back up is my wife great fun, going to the surgery once a month is like visiting the supermarket.

I have recently been on the hunt for a pharmacy to help my mother in law with sorting her meds.

Not many want to do it now-understandable as it must be time consuming but oh so important if there are huge numbers of tablets. It’s too easy to forget if you’ve taken a dose.

In the end her GP surgery told me the nearest pharmacy that was doing it -which isn’t that close but it agreed to do it. Given the nature of the woman she will be furious that I’ve tried to help -or interfered as she will see it. However, she was getting so muddled and in danger of taking extras of some very strong tablets!

A friend’s mother did unwittingly OD on her tablets so I don’t think it’s a remotely daft thing to ask for in the circumstances of a plethora of meds!

I'm not far behind you - I have 16 a day. I have two seven-day pill boxes and every Monday morning I sit down and put my morning tabs in one and evening tabs in the other. (I still forget to take them sometimes.)

Hi, similar to you I take 18 tablets a day plus pain killers if necessary. I'm not too fussy about taking them at a specific time. As long as my Lansoprozole and diabetic ones are at the right time around food and my Isosorbide Mononitrate are 8 hours apart, the other ones get taken all together. A mouthful of pills first thing and another mouthful before going to sleep and I'm done for the day! X

OH MY! Hope you got a dosset box or whatever they are called! Id be useless with remembering anything that isn't morning & night and I even forget those 😩

My dear nan used to line all of her tabs for rhe day along the top of her dresser or on the fireplace. I was fascinated by all the different colours and shapes but NEVER touched or considered them sweets just fascinated 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have just bought (online) a dosette or dosage box for my partner as his medication has just got a bit more complicated and he is finding it very useful. They would be especially good for travelling.

You can get pill boxes for 4 times during the day. Sounds like you may need two separate boxes LOL. I put mine out for each week. I'm also on a painkiller every 3 hours but the pain usually tells me when that's due. It's liquid so I measure it out into 10ml b ottles every day that I can take with me if i go out.

I take 23 a day 🤦🏻‍♂️ 13 in the morning, I use the health app on my iPhone to remind me of what time and what tablets to take, also have it linked with my Apple Watch, find it quite useful

snap same as me, I can’t get the dossette boxes as some are only given in hospital.

Well all went pear shaped yesterday. I had the third Flucloxacillin late yesterday afternoon so thought I would take the fourth (and the third Gabapentin) a bit later than usual. I set the alarm in case I nodded off but didn't wake till 5:00 so took them and my morning tablets. However, I should have waited with the Furosemide as I went back to sleep and had to go to the loo 25 minutes later, went back to sleep and had to go 45 minutes later... Yolu get the picture - talk about broken sleep - never again! ☹️
