Aspirin

I have experienced chest pain in the right side. I have recently started Aspirin after having Open Heart Surgery eight weeks ago.

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this or if I should get it checked out with my GP

I have recently been to my eight weeks appointment with ST Barts, the pain wasn’t there then but I did have an echocardiogram which showed leaking and narrowing present and my sternum is still healing so it could be where they pushed hard to find pictures they needed from echocardiogram.

Hello :-)

Usually Aspirin will upset some peoples stomach but I have not come across it causing any pain so I personally would get it checked out with your Doctor

I hope the rest of your recovery is going well :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Thankyou

I’m not one to go to my GP but I will see what they say, I think it’s nerves beating back together.

Hello :-)

I understand you are not one for seeing the GP but in some circumstances it is best to go and it will give you peace of mind which is worth a visit :-)

Hope everything goes well :-) x

I’d get it checked out but could it be the nerve/muscular pain? I was fine at 8 weeks and then a week later ended up in A&E for the first time in my life with suspected heart attack. They still don’t know what the problem was but assuming it’s the reattachment of nerves and muscle. They were very thorough despite being so busy and checked for not only heart but blood clots and lungs too. I came away still in pain but reassured.

It could be where they had to push on my chest when doing the echocardiogram, it doesn’t normally hurt but I haven’t had open heart surgery in years lol!

My chest feels tight and I have a little cough.

you’re right it could well be that but I hope you’ll get it checked out xx

I’m at 10 months and still get very occasional discomfort on my right side. It was originally chest around my pectoral muscles that side but is now more in my shoulder. My local cardiac unit are aware and are not concerned saying it is muscular. That ties in with the way it arises. It is slowly fading and exercise is helping.

Thankyou

I think it’s down to muscular pain and everything going back together.

always get it checked if your worried but it was a major op, I’m now nearly 2 years post quad and I’m still getting muscle and nerve pains, sometimes they remain for life I’m afraid.

Don't forget you have had major surgery and all the tendons, ligamnts, muscles and bones have been forced into quite extreme positions - at 8 weeks after OHS I had all sorts of pains some dull, some sharp ...... I am on the lean side so I felt everything.... as long as they are happy with your echo, that's the main thing. I am now 16 weeks post Op and everything has settled down nicely - I am afraid it is patience !!!!! On the aspirin, I was on .75mg with an Omeprazole daily and it messed with my stomach (bad nausea etc.) now off it and all is good.

Definitely agree with everything you have said.

I think it’s the body getting back to its normal self and the echo was positive they just have to make the patient aware of anything, but I was happy and very grateful.

It is also mind over matter ...... the stress is just not only on the body !
