Stopping PPI?

Hello everyone, I'm approaching a year post Nstemi with one stent and thus the end of ticagrelor hourray! What I am wondering is if I am then down to aspirin as the only blood thinner (plus ezetimibe and atorvastatin long term but hopefully not much longer on bisoprolol and ramipril ) do I still need ppi? Has anyone swapped to enteric coated at that stage and dropped the ppi?

After I stopped ticagrelor I switched to enteric coated aspirin and stopped PPI. 2 years on and I am doing fine, no stomach issues. Of course we are all different and so my advice would be to ask your doctor and/or pharmacist to change your aspirin to enteric coated and, with their agreement, stop the PPI for a trial period to check that your stomach remains comfortable without the PPI.

I stopped PPI as soon as stopped my clopidegrel - now just enteric coated aspirin . Consultant and pharmacist all very clear no need for PPI once finish dual platelet therapy - usually 12 months. However advice was gradually reduce PPI as can get rebound effect, take gaviscon to help manage which body gets used to normal levels of stomach acid again.

Can you explain a bit more about how you reduced the ppi?

Hi - I was taking 30mg Lansoprazol daily. First I split the dose to 15mg twice a day rather than 30 once a day - to give flexibility.... And get GP to prescribe the lower dose. I then reduced to 15 mg daily, then 15mg every other day.... It's then onto use as and when need it, until off it completely. Doing it this way I had very few issues with rebound acid. I reduced the dosing over about a week each time before stepping it down again.

I stopped cold turkey and did have a few flare ups in the first few weeks. I was advised to take the PPI as a PIP when needed so I took it as advised and didn’t have any issues. I still take it as a PIP once in a while but rarely need it. I take magnesium and I’m convinced it helps keep any heartburn at bay.
