Could any long term users of 75mg aspirin who don't take proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medication (or anything similar) please advise if they have been OK or had any stomach issues please?
I have been taking 75mg aspirin for a year now along with a PPI that I have been taking for 20 years for heartburn. However, my GP has suggested that I have become dependent upon the PPI and has recommended a 7 month withdrawal program if I am interested. I'm keen to get off the PPI but forgot to ask my GP if my aspirin usage would be an issue so would like to hear from any aspirin users on how they have coped long-term using it before I chase up the GP just for this.
The aspirin caused internal bleeding for my husband, he was on it a long time and not given any PPI. He was then changed to Warfarin which was also troublesome.
I have been on aspirin for thirteen months stopped PPI,s after two weeks as they were making me ill. No side affect with aspirin although have to make sure I take after food in the morning. I was taking when I woke up but this gave me heartburn.

When I used to smoke I would have the odd stomach or oesophogus upset, and was always wary about aspirin. However I quit smoking about ten or twelve years ago and the stomach problems disappeared along with cigarettes.
I've been taking 75mg of dispersable aspirin each morning for nearly two years since a bypass operation, so far absolutely no stomach problems.
Thanks all for the very useful comments and advice!
My dad took 75mg aspirin for 25 years with no ill effects. He always dissolved it in a small glass of water and took it after his breakfast in the morning. He was told to stop taking all of his medication 3 years ago following a fall - he’s nearly 96!
I am PPI intolerant and have taken 75mg daily as part of my medication for the past 3 years. I have had no issues at all. My regime is to take my medication with my cereal each morning - Bisoprolol, Losartan, Rosuvastatin, Vitamin B complete. I finish with the soluble aspirin once I have eaten the cereal. My brother had issues with aspirin and was prescribed a coated version which relieved the problems he was having as it dissolved further down his digestive tract.
Hi I took 75 mg aspirin for 24 years after my first heart attack until I was taken off the aspirin after my second heart attack never had any stomach issues and I only ever took aspirin
