Hi, does anyone know if it's OK to have a massage a year after open heart surgery?

Hello
There can be a bit of a debate over this one it has been asked before
I would ask your Doctor or you could give the BHF Nurses a ring and ask what they think and of course if you can then it would be important to tell the place where you are thinking of going to so they would be aware to
Sounds nice though and let us know how you get on x
I can't get a masssge, because of their insurance, they ask for a gps letter, my gp will not give me a letter
Hi I was refused one due to heat failure and when I told my cardiologist he said there was no reason I couldn't get a massage and that they must have been overly cautious. I have had a few since Surgery. Char
If your nurse says she has no objections, you could phone the spa and check with them that they are fine to go ahead with the massage. It will be a lovely day out. Char
Don't know about open-heart surgery, but the hospital consultant said it was OK for me to have a massage 3 days after I had a stent fitted. Needs to be declared to the spa. Mine is currently OK with it, but I have been a customer for years.
hello 🤗 I can’t comment on having a massage with having had open heart surgery. However, as I have Afib I can tell you that a masseur refused me a massage last year. As a previous post has mentioned it’s down to their insurance and importantly what’s safe for the client. I had mentioned my medical condition on the form and she said she wasn’t able to do it. All to do with how a massage moves fluids around the body I believe. It’s now on my list as a question for the first medical person I see. Keep yourself right and also ask someone who knows about your medical history and is qualified to do so. I ended up having a very light touch back and shoulder massage. Nothing like the ones I’ve experienced before Afib so not really worth the money. Hope you find some answers.
Perhaps a wise decision for now. You can still have some treats in the form of a nice manicure or pedicure and I think they can give hand/foot massage too which may be ok for you. Or how about looking into something like an Indian head massage and see if that’s possible. You certainly deserve a bit of pampering after what you’ve been through but it’s really good to hear you feel well looked after.
Hello
Well if this moment you feel having reflexology and a lovely manicure which both sound a lovely pampering time for you which you well deserve then that is lovely you are going to get these done
In the future though you now know that a massage would be ok if you decide to have one
Enjoy it your nails will look gorgeous x
